Set to face Muslim Salikhov in the preliminary portion of UFC Abu Dhabi on July 26, Leal admits he hasn’t moved on from this late-notice debut loss to Rinat Fakhretdinov . They met in October 2024, inside the same venue he returns to this weekend, and Leal lost a highly controversial decision when Hadi Mohamed Ali, Michael Bell and David Lethaby unanimously awarded Fakhretdinov the win.

function not found Since becoming an inaugural member of The Ultimate Fighter reality show, Chris “The Crippler” Leben has amassed quite a career in the UFC. Debuting in the company in 2006, he has gone on to have 21 fights inside the Octagon. In 2010, the Oregonian defeated Aaron Simpson and perennial top-ten fighter Yohihiro Akiyama in the span of just 14 days He knocked out Simpson at The Ultimate Fighter 11 Finale on June 19, earning the Knockout of the Night honors, and then dispatched of Akiyama on July 3 at UFC 116 on July 3, earning the Fight of the Night award. Since that win over Akiyama, Leben has gone 1-4 in the world’s premier fighting organization. Most recently, the Crippler suffered a split-decision loss to Andrew Craig at Saturday’s UFC 162, marking his third loss in a row. Over his career, Leben has been known as a knockout artist who will do anything to please his adoring fans. His strike-first mentality has certainly been costly in defeat, but it is also that mindset that has undoubtedly extended his career in the eyes of UFC president Dana White – a man who is quick to see the bottom dollar in anything business related. Talking to Invicta FC President Shannon Knapp about her organization’s first televised pay-per-view event this Saturday night, you get the sense that she can’t quite believe she’s doing this with her one-year-old company. “I’m so old school and the mindset is, you never go to pay-per-view until you’ve built that brand big and you can do those big numbers,” Knapp told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com). “It took me a little bit to change my mind.” More specifically, Knapp said, it took “a good deal,” one that wouldn’t cost significantly more than what she already was paying to put her all-female fight cards out via internet streams. “And also, you know what? This card deserves it,” said Knapp. “It gives more options to fans to view it, and I figured it’s worth the risk. No expectations, just want to go out and put on a good product like we always do.” That is how this grand experiment started, by relying on both the strength of the fights and the chance to watch them for free on the Internet, where MMA fandom lives. First, it was a free online stream through Invicta’s website, then an online pay-per-view through Ustream, and now a move to televised pay-per-view, at least in North America (Invicta FC 6 still will be available via Ustream elsewhere in the world).

Upon losing his second fight in three bouts and being released from Bellator, welterweight Steve Carl knew he had to make some changes if he was going to get back on track. Specifically, Carl felt his mindset needed to change if he was going to return to being a successful fighter. “After the fight with Douglas (Lima) I took a step back and figured if I’m going to do this, I need to get in there and just let myself do it,” said Carl. “I was on a year break before I fought Douglas, and once I got in the cage, I was nervous, I was hesitant and I thought I was going to lose that fight going into it and fought that way.
