Following a successful 2012 campaign that saw him go 3-0 (with one no contest), lightweight up-and-comer Justin Harrington picked up his fourth win in a row this past March against Garry Winslow at ROTR 27 in quick fashion. “It was kind of quick,” said Harrington of his 57-second submission victory over Winslow. “With him I wanted to show more of what I’m about and bring a little bit more of my standing game because in my past couple of fights I’ve gotten away from what’s gotten me a lot of my wins, but he made the mistake and I had to capitalize on it.” As one of the Northwest’s top prospects, Harrington has been given an opportunity to showcase his skills in a feature bout on Saturday’s CageSport 26 event at the Emerald Queen Casino in Fife, Wash., in a rematch against Levi Peaslee of their July bout from last year

Georges St-Pierre: Despite loss, Anderson Silva still MMA’s pound-for-pound best

LOS ANGELES – Georges St-Pierre knows something about upset losses, which is why he may be a little more forgiving than most when it comes to UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva ‘s first UFC defeat. St-Pierre (24-2 MMA, 18-2 UFC), who holds the UFC’s welterweight title and fights Johny Hendricks (15-1 MMA, 10-1 UFC) at UFC 167 on Nov. 16, said that despite Silva’s UFC 162 title loss to Chris Weidman earlier this month, he still considers the Brazilian to be MMA’s best pound-for-pound fighter. “I still believe Anderson Silva is the best in the world, pound for pound,” said St-Pierre, who was in Los Angeles as part of this week’s UFC World Tour of fan and media events. “Even though he (made) a mistake and got beat by Chris Weidman, I believe it was a style matchup, and he got caught. I believe he’s still the best in the world, but even the best can lose sometimes.” St-Pierre, who occasionally trains with Weidman, said he considers him a friend. He also expected Weidman (10-0 MMA, 6-0 UFC) to pull off the victory, which came via second-round TKO after Silva (33-5 MMA, 16-1 UFC) dropped his hands and continually taunted the wrestler. But the upset, which snapped Silva’s 16-fight UFC winning streak, also served as a warning to St-Pierre, who’s won 11 consecutive fights since his own shocking upset to Matt Serra in 2007

function not found Looking back on her Invicta FC atomweight title loss to Michelle Waterson in April, Jessica Penne feels it was a mistake to even accept the fight given her circumstances heading into the bout. “In all honesty, I should have not taken the last fight,” she said. “I was not able to train the way I normally train for a fight. I wasn’t as sharp as I needed to be going into that fight and it showed. “I’m a competitor and I don’t believe in backing out of fights, however, I will in the future if I’m unable to train for a fight. I let my competitiveness and my pride get in the way and I didn’t want to back out of the fight… and I needed the money. All those things add up. I would have done things differently if I were given another chance.” Even with the loss, Penne (10-2) chooses to look at the positives of the situation.

Nearly 40 bouts into his career, King of the Cage light heavyweight champion Trevor “South African Hammer” Prangley is facing a first, a personal grudge heading into a fight. The issue stems from a December match when Tony Lopez illegally kneed Prangley, causing an end to their fight. While Prangley won via technical decision and claimed the KOTC 205-pound title, ill will still persists between the two heading into their rematch on Thursday in Cour D’Alene, Idaho. “I look forward to a lot of my fights just because opportunity-wise, but this is the first time I’ve had any personal stuff going on,” said Prangley. “It probably won’t affect me as much in the fight, but it’s motivated me in training. “In all honesty, I didn’t afford him the respect cardio-wise and that stuff, and this time I’m not going to make the same mistake. Basically, last time I fought him I trained for three weeks and that was it. On one hand, Canadian light-heavyweight Ryan Jimmo believes he made a mistake in fighting James Te Huna at UFC on FUEL TV 7. On the other, he believes it would have been a mistake not to fight. Jimmo (17-2 MMA, 1-1 UFC), who on Saturday meets Igor Pokrajac (25-9 MMA, 4-4 UFC) at UFC 161, told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) that he “literally didn’t have a leg to stand on” when he fought the Australiian this past February following a career-highlight knockout of Anthony Perosh that catapulted him to stardom. After three rounds with Te Huna, Jimmo lost a unanimous decision and was forced back to the drawing board. “I acted like an amateur by choosing to go ahead,” he said. “I’ve done it before and come out on top. Not that night. Te Huna’s got a hard head.
