Now that the UFC on Fox 9 main event has been put in place, its time for the rest of the fight card to start filling out. Following Monday night’s announcement that UFC lightweight champion Anthony Pettis will square off with Josh Thomson in the headliner, BleacherReport.com has confirmed that Chad Mendes and Nik Lentz have verbally agreed to meet on the Sacramento, Calif., fight card as well. The UFC later added its own confirmation of the bout. Lentz was originally expected to face Steven Siler at UFC Fight for the Troops 3 in November, but reportedly jumped at the opportunity to fight Mendes.

Michael Schiavello puts Nick Diaz on blast for interview no-show

Like so many others, Michael Schiavello has learned that dependability and availability aren’t among Nick Diaz ‘s strong suits. The veteran broadcaster took to Twitter on Monday night to scold the recent UFC title challenger for skipping a taping of his “The Voice Versus” interview series. As he wrote: “@nickdiaz209 has no showed The Voice Versus. Nick you have let your fans down again… And me a big fan in particular. Unprofessional mate.” Over the weekend Schiavello confirmed Diaz was scheduled as a guest, and he said was flying to the fighter’s hometown of Stockton, Calif., to tape the show, which airs on AXS TV. The show previously has drawn many notables from the MMA and entertainment industries, including Dana White, Alistair Overeem , Steven Austin, George Foreman and Steven Seagal. Diaz, though, apparently won’t be one of them

Lewis-Guelmino off UFC on FOX Sports 1 2, Bowling-Trujillo meet on card

An injury has knocked a heavyweight bout off the UFC’s return to Indianapolis, and a pair of lightweights will fill the gap on the card. Derrick Lewis (9-2 MMA, 0-0 UFC) has been forced out of his scheduled fight against Nandor Guelmino (11-4-1 MMA, 0-0 UFC) at UFC on FOX Sports 1 2. Both fighters would have been making their UFC debuts. Instead, Guelmino will be shifted to UFC 165 in Toronto and lightweights Roger Bowling (11-4 MMA, 0-1 UFC) and Abel Trujillo (10-5 MMA, 0-1 UFC) will meet in Indy. UFC officials announced the change and new booking on Monday night. Though the UFC did not announce a new opponent for Guelmino, Swedish site MMA Nytt reports the recently signed Daniel Omielanczuk (15-3 MMA, 0-0 UFC) will meet Guelmino on the card.

Mauricio “Shogun” Rua Pulled from UFC 161; Chael Sonnen and TUF Brazil 3 Future Possibilites

Despite efforts and reports to the contrary, Mauricio “Shogun” Rua will not be fighting Chael Sonnen at UFC 161 on June 15 in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. After Shogun’s original UFC 161 opponent, Antonio Rogerio Nogueira , had to withdraw from the bout due to back problems, Sonnen tweeted to Shogun that he was still looking for a fight. UFC co-owner Lorenzo Fertitta told Kevin Iole, a reporter for MMAWeekly.com official content partner Yahoo! Sports, that Shogun vs. Sonnen was an option they were considering, but that no deal had been struck. The deal did not get done, at least not for UFC 161, as UFC officials announced late Monday night. “With Lil Nog injured, @ShogunRua is left opponentless 2 weeks out; #ufc161 will proceed with 11 fights and Shogun will fight on a card soon,” the UFC stated on its official Twitter account. With the removal of the Shogun fight, a preliminary bout between Ryan Jimmo and Igor Pokrajac has been moved to the main card on pay-per-view. Shogun’s agent, Lucas Pires, told Brazilian website Combate.com that his fighter immediately accepted when he was told that Sonnen had offered to fight him, but Sonnen could be the reason the fight won’t happen at UFC 161.

Visa issues reportedly scrap Sonnen-Rua at UFC 161, Jimmo-Pokrajac head to main

Chael Sonnen tried to get himself into a fight, but it looks like his effort will go wasted. Despite reports on Monday that Sonnen (27-13-1 MMA, 6-6 UFC) would fill in for an injured Antonio Rogerio Nogueira (21-5 MMA, 4-2 UFC) in the co-main event of UFC 161 later this month against Mauricio Rua (21-7 MMA, 5-5 UFC), that fight won’t happen. Instead, UFC 161 will move forward with 11 fights, and “Shogun” will wait to fight another day – perhaps still against Sonnen. The UFC made the announcement late Monday night that Rua had been removed from the card.
