At first I thought the UFC matchmakers were just being paranoid. As soon as they showed up for their USA TODAY photo shoot in the bowels of Winnipeg’s MTS Centre before UFC 161 in June, Zuffa executives Joe Silva and Sean Shelby couldn’t stop joking – half-seriously, it seemed – about the possibility that this was all an elaborate setup.

All fighters who underwent drug testing at this past month’s UFC 161 event successfully passed their tests. MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) confirmed the results with Marc Ratner, the UFC’s senior vice president of government and regulatory affairs. The Manitoba Combative Sports Commission oversaw the testing. UFC 161 took place June 15 at Winnipeg’s MTS Centre, and Rashad Evans took a split decision from fellow light heavyweight Dan Henderson in the pay-per-view main event.

Shawn Jordan recently fought and defeated a friend, so if the UFC asks wants him to do it again – this time against fellow UFC 161 winner Stipe Miocic – he said he’s game. Jordan (15-4 MMA, 3-1 UFC), who knocked out buddy and fellow heavyweight Pat Barry (8-6 MMA, 5-6 UFC) at the June 15 event, said he was able to set aside the friendship for one night. It resulted in a $50,000 “Knockout of the Night” award after just 59 seconds of work. Later on the pay-per-view main card at Winnipeg’s MTS Centre, Miocic (10-1 MMA, 4-1 UFC) upset Roy Nelson (19-8 MMA, 6-4 UFC) in the co-headliner. Ex-champ Rashad Evans rebounded in a big way at UFC 161, but he’ll need medical clearance before he resumes his comeback. Evans, who won a split decision over former champ Dan Henderson at this past Saturday’s pay-per-view event, was suspended indefinitely by the Manitoba Boxing Commission, which today forwarded medical suspensions to MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com). UFC 161 took place at MTS Centre in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. The event’s main card aired live on pay-per-view following prelims on FX and Facebook. All 24 fighters on the card were either suspended indefinitely or received 14-day terms. Ryan Jimmo , who fought a grueling bout with Igor Pokrajac on the event’s main-card, was given an indefinite term, as well as Pat Barry , who suffered a quick TKO loss to Shawn Jordan in the pay-per-view opener. WINNIPEG – The other side of the coin for Rashad Evans on Saturday night was not going to be a good thing. And he was just one judge and one round away from it. Evans (18-3-1 MMA, 13-3-1 UFC) took a split decision against Dan Henderson (29-10 MMA, 6-4 UFC) in the main event of UFC 161, which took place at MTS Centre in Winnipeg. In a close back-and-forth light heavyweight fight, just a few moves different here or there could’ve been the difference between Evans snapping a two-fight skid – or Evans going down for the third straight time. It was the second straight close split-decision loss for Henderson after a February setback against Lyoto Machida at UFC 157, and with two straight losses, the chances of Henderson competing for a UFC title ever again dropped to slim – as would former champ Evans’ had he been on the other end of the split call. Rashad Evans Still Open to Middleweight Opportunities, but Wants to Fight Jon Jones Again

Former UFC light heavyweight champion Rashad Evans got back in the winner’s column by defeating MMA legend Dan Henderson via split-decision at UFC 161 on Saturday night. In front of a sold-out crowd at the MTS Centre in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, the former Ultimate Fighter Season 2 winner battled the 42-year-old veteran in a three-round contest that saw Evans snap a back-to-back losing streak (the first of his nearly decade-long career). After his losses to Jon Jones and Antonio Rogerio Nogueira, at UFC 145 and UFC 156 respectively, Evans’ career was in a tailspin. With his win over Henderson, he once again finds himself on the path gold, albeit with some reservations about his performance against the future Hall-of-Famer. Coming off of two losses, it takes a little bit of a hit on your confidence,” said a contrite Evans at the UFC 161 post-fight press conference. “Trying to work back mentally to get your game where you want to, get your timing down, believing in your shot, believing in your punches, stuff like that, this wasn’t my best performance by far, but it’s something to start from.” UFC president Dana White mirrored Evans’ sentiments, as he spoke about the importance of the fight. “(It) was a good night for Rashad because Rashad needed to get his head back in the game physically, mentally, emotionally, everything,” said White. “Obviously he looked good physically. He’s in the best shape I’ve ever seen him in. (He) came out and fought a tough guy in Dan Henderson.
