Tyrone Spong vs. Angel DeAnda headlines the card with a supporting cast that includes company president Ray Sefo fighting Dave Huckaba. Then, the main card airs live on Saturday at 10:30 p.m. ET/7:30 p.m. PT on NBC Sports Network, but the World Series of Fighting 4 preliminary bouts stream LIVE worldwide on MMAWeekly.com on Saturday at 8:00 p.m. ET/5:00 p.m

Ray Sefo vs. Dave Huckaba, Nick Newell added to WSOF 4 in California

Company president Ray Sefo (2-1) will meet fellow heavyweight Dave Huckaba (20-5) at World Series of Fighting’s next event. Additionally, as expected, recent signee and rising lightweight Nick Newell (9-0) also will compete at WSOF 4. Sefo made the announcement at Friday’s WSOF 3 event. WSOF 4, meanwhile, takes place Aug. 10 at Citizens Business Bank Arena in Ontario, Calif. The main card airs on NBC Sports Network. Sefo previously said he expected to compete on the card , though an opponent wasn’t revealed at the time

LAS VEGAS – Josh Burkman ‘s (26-9) comeback is real. “The People’s Warrior” earned his fifth straight victory with a shocking first-round technical-submission win over onetime UFC title challenger Jon Fitch (24-6-1). The rematch served as the main event of Friday’s World Series of Fighting 3 event, which took place at The Joint at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas and aired on NBC Sports Network. Burkman attacked from the opening bell, rocking Fitch with an early flurry and sending his opponent to the floor. From there, he pounded away before locking in a guillotine choke and falling to his back. Burkman arched his back and squeezed, letting up only when he felt Fitch go limp – and well before Steve Mazzagatti was looking to call off the fight. With the 41-second win, Burkman earns revenge for a 2006 loss to Fitch and is now an impressive 8-1 in his past nine fights. The lone loss in that stretch came to current UFC contender Jordan Mein

Since signing with the World Series of Fighting last year, welterweight Josh Burkman has worked his way into the position of being one of the promotion’s top 170-pound fighters with two wins in two fights for the company. As Burkman told MMAWeekly.com , getting to this point was his objective from the beginning. “My goal was to go in and win fights against top competitors and become a feature guy in the organization,” he said. “(President) Ray Sefo and (matchmaker) Ali (Abdel-Aziz) promised me they’d go out and get top talent and they’ve done that. “I’m real excited about the show, their deal with NBC Sports Network, and I think we’re headed in the right direction.” Burkman will get a chance to prove he’s tops in the promotion when he takes on fellow former UFC welterweight Jon Fitch on Friday in Las Vegas, live on NBC Sports Network. The bout is a rematch of their initial fight seven years ago. “The only thing that carries over is I remember getting beaten up by a very good fighter,” chuckled Burkman.

WSOF 3 weigh-in results: Josh Burkman and Jon Fitch cleared for rematch

Almost all fighters are on weight for Friday’s WSOF 3 event, including headliners Josh Burkman and Jon Fitch . The weigh-in festivities took place today at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas. The same venue hosts Friday’s event, which includes a main card on NBC Sports Network and prelims on MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com). (International viewers can watch the entire card on MMAjunkie.com.) Fitch (171 pounds) and Burkman (170), who fought in 2006 under the UFC banner with Fitch earning a submission victory, made weight without issue. The only fighter who missed on his first attempt was preliminary-card competitor Jeff Smith , who came in four-tenths of a pound over the featherweight limit

Tyson Griffin vs. Gesias Cavalcante slated for WSOF 4

A lightweight bout between big-show vets Tyson Griffin (16-6) and Gesias Cavalcante (17-7-1) is the latest addition to August’s World Series of Fighting 4 lineup. WSOF officials recently confirmed the bout with MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) following an initial report from Tatame . WSOF takes place Aug. 10 at Citizens Business Bank Arena in Ontario, Calif. The main card, which is likely to include Griffin vs. Cavalcante, airs on NBC Sports Network. Griffin, a former UFC lightweight contender who also had a short stint at featherweight, makes his promotional debut.

Jacob Volkmann, Jon Fitch hit pause on WSOF 3 to discuss MMA fighters’ union

A middle-of-the-road media teleconference briefly turned into an informal union meeting as World Series of Fighting signees Jacob Volkmann (15-4) and Jon Fitch (24-5-1) swapped ideas about collective bargaining. “I did have a question for Fitch after this question,” Volkmann said in response to a query from MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) about his feelings about the promotion. “I was wondering if Fitch wanted to get a fighter’s union started for the UFC, to see if we can get a union started so fighters have a little better pay and a little more leverage in their contract.” As it turned out, Fitch already was on the same page. Like Volkmann, he had been unceremoniously released from the industry-leader following a loss and signed with the WSOF. In several interviews after his departure, he criticized the UFC’s business practices. Both Fitch and Volkamnn will turn over a new leaf when they compete on June 14 at the upstart promotion’s third event, which takes place at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas. The event’s main-card airs live on NBC Sports Network following prelims that will stream at MMAjunkie.com
