Following back-to-back wins to close out 2012, CageSport heavyweight champion Anthony Hamilton started off this year with his third win in a row by getting a 90-second arm bar submission of Will Courchaine at Rumble on the Ridge 27 in March. “I’ve been trying to stay more active, but that’s been tougher as I’ve moved up the ranks, so it was good to start 2013 with a win,” said Hamilton. “(The fight) didn’t last too long, so I didn’t take any injuries, and it’s always good to get in and out of there in a good fashion, so I was pretty happy about it.” The fight not only raised Hamilton’s winning streak to three in a row, it was also his third straight fight finishing a bout in less than two minutes. When asked if he feels he can gauge where he’s at with such quick performances or if he has to do that during training, Hamilton replied, “I train a lot down at Jackson’s in New Mexico, so it’s always a good gauge to see where you’re at training with guys like Jon Jones, Travis Browne, Frank Mir and guys like that.

UFC’s Melvin Guillard receives suspended sentence for 2010 assault charge

UFC lightweight Melvin Guillard ‘s fight career will proceed as usual after receiving a suspended sentence on a pair of assault charges from 2010. Guillard (30-12-2 MMA, 11-7 UFC), who is scheduled to fight Mac Danzig next month at UFC on FOX 8, was ruled guilty on two counts of aggravated battery and given 364 days in the Metropolitan Detention Center in Bernalillo County, N.M., all of which were suspended by a judge. In avoiding jail, the 30-year-old fighter was given supervised probation through June 25, 2015, and must complete 40 hours of community service in addition to paying court fees. Sports Illustrated’s Melissa Segura first reported the sentence, which was later confirmed by MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com). The assault charges came to light this past March when Guillard attempted to move from the Blackzilians MMA team to his previous home at Jackson-Winkeljohn’s MMA. A source close to the New Mexico-based team said the fighter wasn’t welcome back at the gym. After a brief limbo, Guillard took residence at Wheat Ridge, Colo.’s Grudge Training Center to work with the gym’s head trainer Trevor Wittman, with whom he’d briefly trained. Guillard pleaded not guilty to the assault charges and told ESPN.com he was actually the victim in the assault case, which stemmed from an altercation with five bouncers at a nightclub

XFC 25 heads to Albuquerque for Eggink vs. Magana strawweight title fight

Xtreme Fighting Championship will head to Albuquerque, N.M., in September and its women’s strawweight title will be on the line. XFC 25 takes place Sept. 6 at Albuquerque Convention Center and features a main event between Stephanie Eggink (3-1) and Angela Magana (11-5) for the promotion’s first 115-pound championship. In the co-main event, Dhiego Lima (8-1) takes on Ricky Rainey (8-1) at welterweight. XFC officials recently announced the card, which will be its first visit to the New Mexico city – and first card west of the Mississippi River. Eggink has won back-to-back unanimous decisions under the XFC banner
