SEATTLE – UFC lightweight Melvin Guillard wanted to send a message by beating Mac Danzig at UFC on FOX 8. Now, after knocking out “The Ultimate Fighter 6″ winner in highlight-reel fashion, he wants to keep busy by fighting at UFC 166, which takes place Oct. 19 in his former hometown of Houston. Guillard (31-12-2 MMA, 12-8 UFC) expressed no preference of opponents and told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com), “I don’t care who I fight. As long as they put them in front of me, I’ll fight them.” Before he returns to his new training home at Denver’s Grudge Training Center, where he spent three months preparing for Danzig (21-11-1 MMA, 5-7 UFC), “The Young Assassin” will fly to Florida to reunite with his wife for a week. He’ll then fly to his native New Orleans to spend two weeks with his sister, who’s preparing to undergo brain surgery. Guillard stressed the importance of family in his impressive turnaround. This past week, he missed his grandmother’s funeral to complete his training camp for UFC on FOX 8.

UFC lightweight Melvin Guillard (30-12-2 MMA, 11-7 UFC) has a lot on his mind leading into his next fight, and it’s not about his departure earlier this year from the Blackzilians MMA team in Florida. Guillard’s grandmother passed away on Monday, and he said his sister is scheduled to have brain surgery four days after this weekend’s UFC on FOX 8 event, where he faces Mac Danzig (30-12-2 MMA, 11-8 UFC) on the event’s FX-televised preliminary-card at KeyArena in Seattle. Win or lose at the event, Guillard will fly to Florida to reunite with his wife, whom he hasn’t seen since April, and then go to New Orleans to see his sister through her procedure. Guillard said he remains focused despite recent challenges and said he’s dedicating his fight to his family. “Those things only make me stronger,” he told MMAjunkie.com Radio (www.mmajunkie.com/radio). It’s been a tough year for “The Young Assassin,” who left the Blackzilians after back-to-back losses in the octagon. He was then blocked from returning to his former team at Jackson-Winkeljohn’s MMA and went to court on a pair of assault charges from 2010. In April, Guillard moved into the basement of a fighter house at the Grudge Training Center in Wheat Ridge, Colo., to get his career back on track

As the fourth episode of “Fight Master” opens, the victorious fighters are settling into their house in New Orleans. In a twist, the cage where they compete is housed in the same massive building. Frank Shamrock ‘s team is still short one fighter since winner Andy Uhrich was forced to withdraw from the tournament. Shamrock elects to bring by Joe Williams , who was defeated in an elimination fight by Cole Williams in a decision result.

As the opening scenes of ‘Fight Master’ get underway, the premise for the show is laid out to the audience. Thirty-two fighters travel to New Orleans to compete in a tournament. They’ll start by picking a coach to assist them in their journey. Four options are available: Randy Couture , Greg Jackson, Frank Shamrock and Joe Warren . The prize for the winner is $100,000, a spot in an upcoming Bellator MMA tournament and the title of ‘Fight Master.’ The coaches seem both excited and a bit nervous to see how things are going to play out.
