SEATTLE – Recent rumors that the addition of a new women’s division to the UFC was imminent are false, UFC President Dana White told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) following Saturday’s UFC on FOX 8 event. White, who has previously said the promotion could eventually add more weight classes for the ladies, said it will be a while before there are opportunities beyond the bantamweight division. “We’re still building up this division and getting people to know who these girls are,” he said. “We’ve got to see how this one works for a couple years before we (add new divisions).” So far, White said he’s happy with the development of the 135-pound class, which formally started in February with an all-female headliner between champ Ronda Rousey and challenger Liz Carmouche at UFC 157. Carmouche returned on Saturday night and beat UFC newcomer Jessica Andrade via second-round TKO in the first FOX-televised bout at UFC on FOX 8, which took place at Seattle’s KeyArena.

SEATTLE – Ground-and-pound was the name of the game for Liz Carmouche on the way to her first UFC victory. The recent women’s bantamweight title challenger pounced out newcomer Jessica Andrade with a vicious barrage of elbows and fists on the ground for a second-round TKO win. The women’s bantamweight bout opened up the main card of today’s UFC on FOX 8 event at KeyArena in Seattle. It aired on FOX following prelims on FX and Facebook. Carmouche opened with an early kick, but Andrade fired right back and the two tied up along the fence.

UFC newcomer Jessica Andrade ‘s bright smile hides a fierce martial arts competitor. The only grin bigger than hers during an open workout in support of UFC on FOX 8 belonged to her opponent, recent bantamweight title challenger Liz Carmouche . But Andrade’s nickname is also “Bate Estaca,” which in Portuguese means “Pile Driver.” It’s an illegal move in MMA, and one that immediately prompts howls for point deductions. Andrade, a blue belt in jiu-jitsu who lives in the city of Niteroi in the state of Rio de Janeiro, earned it during a grappling competition in which she faced a larger opponent. During their match, she was caught in an armbar, and in a panic, picked up the opponent and slammed her on her head. She doesn’t believe in cheating, of course, but she’s kept the name throughout her 11-fight career because it just might serve a purpose in the UFC. “I think it’s a cool nickname if it puts fear in the hearts of my opponents,” Andrade told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com). Andrade (9-2 MMA, 0-0 UFC) and Carmouche (8-3 MMA, 0-1 UFC) open the main card of UFC on FOX 8, which takes place Saturday at Seattle’s KeyArena and airs live on FOX. Andrade steps up on short notice as a replacement for ex-Strikeforce champ Miesha Tate , who was tapped to coach “The Ultimate Fighter 18″ and fight champ Ronda Rousey when title challenger Cat Zingano was injured. The 5-foot-3 Andrade walked away from five scheduled fights in six months to accept the bout with Carmouche, who returns to the octagon after a submission loss to Rousey in February. A recently reported women’s bantamweight bout between recent title challenger Liz Carmouche and newcomer Jessica Andrade now is official for the UFC’s summer return to the Pacific Northwest. Carmouche (8-3 MMA, 0-1 UFC) will meet Andrade (9-2 MMA, 0-0 UFC) on the main card of UFC on FOX 8, which takes July 27 at KeyArena in Seattle. The four-fight main card, including a flyweight title fight between champ Demetrious Johnson and top contender John Moraga , airs on FOX following prelims on FX and Facebook. UFC officials on Monday announced the fight, which MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) reported on over the weekend . Carmouche in February made her UFC debut in a women’s bantamweight title fight against champion Ronda Rousey . The two headlined the UFC 157 pay-per-view in Anaheim, Calif., and went into the record books as the first women’s fight in UFC history. Liz Carmouche Draws Octagon Newcomer Jessica Andrade at UFC on Fox 8

Liz Carmouche has already been part of a lot of firsts in UFC history, and she’s only one fight into her tenure with the promotion. She was in the first women’s title fight, the first women’s bout to headline a pay-per-view, and the first women’s bout to take place in the Octagon. Now that she’s fought current UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey , she’s moving on to become one of the first two women to fight on Fox. Carmouche was originally slated to face Miesha Tate at UFC on Fox 8 on July 27 in Seattle, but Tate was called on to coach opposite Rousey on TUF 18 when Cat Zingano had to withdraw from the job due to a severe knee injury. Carmouche will now face promotional newcomer Jessica Andrade at UFC on Fox 8. The new bout was first reported by MMAFighting.com . She (8-3) may have failed in her bid to wrest the belt from Rousey, but Carmouche came as close as anyone ever has to derailing the Rousey train. She eventually succumbed to the same submission as the rest of the UFC women’s bantamweight champion’s opponents, but she’ll get the opportunity to redeem herself in Seattle.
