Rodrigo Lima is a finisher. But so far, the Brazilian hasn’t been able to prove that at the next level. Lima, in his two fights with Bellator, has dropped a decision and won one. On Wednesday night against Rafael Silva , his plan is to change the course of things – at the most opportune time possible: Bellator’s next bantamweight tournament. But then again, if he has to go 15 minutes, so be it. Lima (11-1 MMA, 1-1 BMMA) and Silva (19-3 MMA, 0-0 BMMA) fight on the preliminary card of Bellator 97, which takes place at Santa Ana Star Center in Rio Rancho, N.M., near Albuquerque. The main card airs on Spike TV, while the Lima-Silva bantamweight tourney semifinal fight streams on Spike.com. “Usually, my intent is to finish in first round,” Lima told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com).

Five days before he’s due to induct a man he’s still not speaking to into the UFC Hall of Fame, UFC President Dana White did his best to explain to the media why he thinks Stephan Bonnar is deserving of the honor. “The way I’m looking at it is, I’m inducting Forrest [Griffin], and Stephan goes with him,” White said. “Those two – it wasn’t just Forrest – both of those guys took us to this next level.” In other words, it’s because of that one fight, which we all pretty much already knew. What we don’t seem to appreciate, at least in White’s eyes, is what that one fight truly meant for the UFC, which came into the very first live finale for “The Ultimate Fighter” with an uncertain future, and left with a deal that would at least ensure that it could keep the lights on for a little while longer. You know this chapter of the origin story by now. The UFC, down to the last of the small fortune that the Fertitta family was willing to pump into it, bought its way onto Spike TV with an MMA reality show that White hoped would be the steppingstone to success. Included in this week’s UFC Fan Expo in Las Vegas will be an event a pair of UFC elite fighters hope takes MMA to the next level. The first MMA Draft Combine takes place Saturday as part of the Expo and is an opportunity for amateur fighters to get noticed a little bit quicker. Created by UFC light heavyweight Phil Davis and current bantamweight contender and former featherweight champion Urijah Faber , MMA Draft has its own website devoted to upping the ante for amateur fighters. The UFC Fan Expo takes place Friday and Saturday in conjunction with UFC 162, which takes place Saturday at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
