In an FS1-televised preliminary-card bout at today’s UFC Fight Night 109 event, Velickovic (15-4-1 MMA, 2-1-1 UFC) stunned the crowd at Ericsson Globe in Stockholm when he popped fellow welterweight Nico Musoke (13-5 MMA, 3-3 UFC) with a crisp third-round punch. An all-European welterweight affair is the latest addition to next month’s UFC Fight Night 109 event. UFC officials today announced that Sweden’s Nico Musoke (13-4 MMA, 3-2 UFC) will meet Serbia’s Bojan Velickovic (14-4-1 MMA, 1-1-1 UFC) at the May 28 event, which takes place at Ericsson Globe in Stockholm. The night’s official bout order has yet to be revealed, but the evening’s main card airs on FS1 and UFC Fight Pass. Musoke returns to action following more than two years on the shelf

Albert Tumenov STOCKHOLM – After three close rounds, the damage to their bodies told the story. Albert Tumenov sported bright red welts on his ribs where Nico Musoke had repeatedly kicked him, while Musoke was left wiping blood from his nose and mouth where Tumenov had repeatedly punched him. In the end, the judges were more impressed with Tumenov (14-2 MMA, 3-1 UFC), who earned the unanimous decision victory (29-28, 29-28, 29-28) for his efforts, downing a game Musoke (13-4 MMA, 3-2 UFC) who seemed to fade in the final round. The welterweight bout closed out the preliminary card of today’s UFC on FOX 14 event at Tele2 Arena in Stockholm.

STOCKHOLM – Nico Musoke (13-3 MMA, 3-1 UFC) stayed busy and kept after Alexander Yakovlev (21-6-1 MMA, 0-2 UFC) for three full rounds, and after a close fight the judges rewarded him with a unanimous decision victory (30-27, 30-27, 30-27) that looks more lopsided on paper than the bout was in practice. The welterweight bout was part of today’s UFC Fight Night 53 preliminary card. It streamed on UFC Fight Pass from Ericsson Globe in Stockholm. Despite the lopsided scores at the end, this was a back-and-forth battle in each and every round, with Musoke controlling the distance and counter-punching effectively, yet finding himself largely incapable of kicking his offense into the next gear. For his part, Yakovlev managed to open a cut on Musoke’s scalp with a glancing left hook in the first, but he struggled to do much real damage down the stretch as Musoke managed to stifle many of his attacks with effective clinch work against the fence. In the end, it seemed to be Musoke’s aggression and work rate that carried the day with judges, as the Swedish fighter consistently controlled where the fight took place and at what pace, frustrating Yakovlev’s best efforts in the later rounds

Alexander Yakovlev replaces Amir Sadollah at UFC Fight Night 53 in Sweden

Alexander Yakovlev will get a second chance at a first UFC win after replacing Amir Sadollah at October’s UFC Fight Night 53 event in Sweden. UFC officials today announced that the Russian-born Yakovlev (21-5-1 MMA, 0-1 UFC) has stepped in a replacement and meets fellow welterweight Nico Musoke (12-3 MMA, 2-1 UFC). Sadollah (6-4 MMA, 6-4 UFC), meanwhile, recently left the UFC Fight Night 53 card and now meets Yoshihiro Akiyama (13-5 MMA, 1-4 UFC) at UFC Fight Night 52 as a replacement for injured Kyle Noke. UFC Fight Night 53 takes place Oct. 4 at Ericsson Globe in Stockholm. The event streams on UFC Fight Pass.

An injury has forced Kyle Noke (20-7-1 MMA, 3-3 UFC) out of a planned UFC Fight Night 52 bout with welterweight Yoshihiro Akiyama (13-5 MMA, 1-4 UFC).
