Bellator 297 has taken a pair of hits the week prior to the June 16 event at Wintrust Arena in Chicago. Former Bellator middleweight title challenger Austin Vanderford (11-2 MMA, 5-2 BMMA) was expected to face Imamshafi Aliev (9-0 MMA, 1-0 BMMA), but that fight has been canceled for undisclosed reasons. Additionally, the bantamweight bout between Leandro Higo (21-6 MMA, 4-4 BMMA) and Nikita Mikhailov (10-2 MMA, 3-1 BMMA) is off due to an illness with the former. The card is set to proceed with 16 bouts including a light heavyweight title fight in the main event, as champion Vadim Nemkov (16-2 MMA, 8-0 BMMA) tries to defend his title against former UFC title challenger Yoel Romero (9-4 MMA, 15-6 BMMA)

HONOLULU – Nikita Mikhailov is hoping the support from a team led by the legendary Fedor Emelianenko will help give him a push this week. Mikhailov (9-1 MMA, 2-0 BMMA) starts his path toward the bantamweight title when he takes on Enrique Barzola (17-5-2 MMA, 1-0 BMMA) on Friday at Bellator 278 in Honolulu. Their fight is a wild card bout to open Bellator’s bantamweight grand prix. The winner of the fight will move into the semifinals of the bracket to take on Magomed Magomedov. Ultimately, the tournament winner will be Bellator’s interim bantamweight champion and get a title unification bout against champ Sergio Pettis

Bellator 269 is shaping up. On Tuesday, the promotion announced a handful of additions – and a change – the Oct. 23 card scheduled for VTB Arena in Moscow. Included in the latest lineup is Usman Nurmagomedov (13-0 MMA, 2-0 BMMA) who takes his third career Bellator assignment against Patrik Pietila (11-8 MMA, 0-0 BMMA). Nurmagomedov, , most recently competed at Bellator 263 in July when he defeated Manny Muro via first-round TKO . The younger cousin of former UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov, Usman Nurmagomedov has been praised by Bellator president Scott Coker as one of the promotion’s top rising stars.
