They woke up on Tuesday morning to the news that Norifumi Yamamoto – known almost exclusively as “Kid,” even in the last years of his career – had died after a battle with cancer at age 41. Then they saw the reactions on Twitter, as well as on all the usual websites

Veteran Norifumi Yamamoto (18-6 MMA, 0-3 UFC) and Chris Beal (10-2 MMA, 2-2 UFC) will meet at UFC Fight Night 89 in Canada. UFC officials today announced the bout, though a weight class wasn’t disclosed. UFC Fight Night 89 takes place June 18 at The Arena at TD Place in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. The event airs on FOX Sports 1 following early prelims on UFC Fight Pass. However, the bout order hasn’t been finalized.

With scrapped fight, Brandao-Kikuno moves to Saturday’s UFC Fight Night 75 main card

Diego Brandao With a pair of injuries, Saturday’s UFC Fight Night 75 lineup has a new main-card bout. UFC officials recently announced the cancellation of a bantamweight fight between Matt Hobar (9-3 MMA, 1-2 UFC) and Norifumi Yamamoto (18-6 MMA, 0-3 UFC) after both competitors suffered undisclosed injuries. As a result, a featherweight title between Diego Brandao (19-10 MMA, 5-3 UFC) and Katsunori Kikuno (23-7-2 MMA, 2-2 UFC) has been elevated to the main card.

Kyoji Horiguchi UFC Fight Night 76 is starting to take shape with the UFC’s announcement of four bouts for the event. UFC Fight Night 76 takes place Sept. 27 at Saitama Super Arena in Japan, just north of Tokyo. Due to the time difference, the event will air on Sept. 26 in North America. Broadcast plans have not yet been announced

Norifumi “Kid” Yamamoto After a layoff that will be nearly three years to the day since his last fight, Norifumi Yamamoto is set to make a long-awaited return to MMA. “Kid” Yamamoto (18-6 MMA, 0-3 UFC) is set to face Roman Salazar (9-3 MMA, 0-1 UFC) in February at UFC 184. UFC officials announced the new bantamweight booking today. Featuring championship bouts in both the middleweight and women’s bantamweight divisions, UFC 184 takes place Feb. 28 at Staples Center in Los Angeles. The evening’s main card airs on pay-per-view, though an official bout order has yet to be revealed.

September’s return to Japan, UFC Fight Night 52, will feature some local talent, officials today announced. During a press conference in Tokoyo, some familiar names were announced the card (via MMAFighting.com ), which takes place Sept. 20 at Saitama Arena in Saitama, Japan. The event, which features a previously announced headliner between heavyweights Roy Nelson and Mark Hunt, is expected to stream on UFC Fight Pass. In flyweight action, Kyoji Horiguchi (13-1 MMA, 2-0 UFC), a Japanese who’s picked up UFC wins over Dustin Pague and Darrell Montague to move his overall winning streak to seven fights, meets Chris Cariaso (17-5 MMA, 7-3 UFC), who looks to cement his contender status with a fourth straight UFC win

TVA Sports ‘ Nancy Audet first reported the bout, the UFC officials haven’t made a formal announcement. UFC 165 takes place Sept. 21 at Air Canada Centre in Toronto.
