Former UFC light heavyweight champions Quinton “Rampage” Jackson and Tito Ortiz have been friends for over a decade. They’ve been training partners, and at one time, they said they would never fight each other. Times have changed. Their friendship is intact, but the two no longer train together and are going to fight. Ortiz and Jackson will headline Bellator MMA ’s first ever pay-per-view on Nov. 2, and Jackson says there’s always been a bit of a secret rivalry between the two. When Jackson was making his way up the ranks in Japan with the Pride organization, Ortiz was the reigning UFC 205-pound champion. The two began training together at Ortiz’ gym in California under the direction of Colin Oyama. “I trained with Tito for years and I can tell secretly there’s been a little competition between me and Tito. I remember when I first started training with him and Ricco Rodriguez, they used to kick my ass all the time and stuff like that.

With Bellator MMA’s first pay-per-view venture featuring a pair of headliners who never have fought for the promotion before, its champions apparently don’t need to worry about being left out in the cold. Bellator CEO Bjorn Rebney on Monday said the plan is for the promotion to stack much the rest of the main card of its first pay-per-view with title fights. Bellator 106 is set for Nov. 2 at Long Beach Arena in Long Beach, Calif., and will be headlined by former UFC light heavyweight champions Quinton Jackson (32-11 MMA, 0-0 BMMA) and Tito Ortiz (16-11-1 MMA, 0-0 BMMA). Ortiz’s signing with the promotion just was announced this past week when he was introduced in the cage by “Rampage,” who was on hand at Bellator 97 to make the special announcement about the fight. Jackson fought most recently in the UFC and dropped a decision to Glover Teixeira , his third straight loss. Ortiz retired following his loss to Forrest Griffin at UFC 148 in July 2012, also his third straight setback and seventh loss in nine fights. Rebney, as part of a media call in support of the company’s inaugural pay-per-view, said he isn’t worried about “Rampage” and Ortiz stealing the spotlight from longstanding Bellator champions like Pat Curran , Michael Chandler and Ben Askren , the latter two of which just defended their titles in dominant fashion at Bellator 97

Bellator MMA light heavyweight and ex-UFC champ Quinton Jackson said he wanted to fight former boxing champ Roy Jones Jr. at the promotion’s pay-per-view event slated for winter. But UFC Hall of Famer Tito Ortiz put the kibosh on that. Or in the words of “Rampage,” “f—ed it all up.” This past week, Bellator threw MMA fans a curveball when it announced Ortiz as Jackson’s opponent rather than Jones, who had been targeted for a boxing match with “Rampage.” Jackson (32-11 MMA, 0-0 BMMA) and Ortiz (16-11-1 MMA, 0-0 BMMA), who’ve been friends for over a decade, will headline the Viacom-owned promotion’s first foray into pay-per-view on Nov. 2 at Long Beach Arena in Long Beach, Calif. Jackson said he was putting together a training camp for Jones and planned to cut to 200 pounds, which is the limit for boxing cruiserweights, when he got word that Bellator was going to sign Ortiz. Bellator MMA announces full Season 9 schedule through November

On the heels of Wednesday’s surprise announcement of Bellator MMA’s first pay-per-view event, the promotion has unveiled its full Season 9 schedule. The lineup features 12 events, including the Nov. 2 pay-per-view with former UFC champions Quinton Jackson vs. Tito Ortiz in the main event. Previously unreported additions to the schedule include stops in Iowa, Oklahoma and Pennsylvania.
