Hendricks’ camp: Reps for UFC champ St-Pierre refused NSAC-approved WADA testing

It appears UFC champion Georges St-Pierre will proceed with enhanced drug testing conducted by VADA. UFC 167 opponent Johny Hendricks will participate in the NSAC’s testing, but not with VADA, after St-Pierre’s camp hedged on participating in an enhanced testing program recently approved by the commission.

NSAC suspends Brian Bowles nine months, issues $5,700 fine for UFC 160 failure

The Nevada State Athletic Commission today suspended UFC bantamweight Brian Bowles for nine months and fined him 30 percent of his UFC 160 purse for an elevated testosterone-to-epitestosterone (T/E) ratio. Bowles, who lost to George Roop via second-round TKO, is suspended retroactively to the event and forfeits $5,700 of his $19,000 purse to the commission. Unexpectedly, Bowles was present at the hearing and said he had no idea why he failed his test, according to ESPN reporter Brett Okamoto , who attended Bowles’ hearing today in Las Vegas. As MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) previously reported, the NSAC expected to proceed with its disciplinary complaint without Bowles in attendance , as the fighter hadn’t responded to a written notification of his drug test failure and a temporary suspension.

NSAC to present Brian Bowles’ UFC 160 complaint uncontested at next meeting

The Nevada State Athletic Commission is proceeding with a disciplinary complaint against bantamweight Brian Bowles despite not hearing back from the fighter on his failed drug test. Bowles’ post-fight drug screen at UFC 160 came back with a testosterone-to-epitestosterone (T/E) ratio of more than 20-1, according to the NSAC. The commission temporarily suspended the fighter pending a formal hearing. Bowles has the right to contest the findings, but as of yet, he hasn’t responded to the complaint, NSAC Executive Director Keith Kizer told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com). “He never filed an answer, so it looks to be uncontested,” wrote Kizer via email. Regardless, the Georgia-based fighter is likely to be suspended and fined for his failed drug test at the NSAC’s next meeting, which takes place Aug.

Nevada State Athletic Commission officials today revealed that UFC execs have requested permission to conduct a Nov. 30 event at Las Vegas’ Mandalay Bay Events Center that would air on FOX Sports 1. While UFC officials declined to comment on the new date, sources close to the event informed MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) that fight card would serve as the live finale of “The Ultimate Fighter 18.” NSAC officials will address the application at their next regularly scheduled monthly meeting, which takes place Aug.

Dave Herman Passes UFC 162 Pre-Fight Drug Test, Cleared to Face Gabriel Gonzaga

UFC heavyweight Dave Herman has passed a required pre-fight drug test, gaining approval to fight Gabriel Gonzaga at UFC 162 on Saturday at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. The fight is part of the UFC 162 preliminary bouts scheduled to air on the FX network. Herman was required to go before the Nevada State Athletic Commission on Friday to plead his case to gain approval for a license to fight at Saturday’s event. He has twice failed drug tests for marijuana in the past, and the commission had concerns about his participation at UFC 162. After assuring the commission that he could pass a drug test on the spot, the NSAC said it would issue Herman a one-fight license to compete at UFC 162 , but the license would be contingent upon him passing an immediate drug test.

UFC heavyweight Dave Herman has had drug test related issues during his fighting career, and it hasn’t gone unnoticed by the Nevada State Athletic Commission. The NSAC at a commission meeting on Friday said it would issue Herman a one-fight license to compete at next week’s UFC 162 in Las Vegas, but the license is contingent upon him passing an immediate drug test. He is slated to fight Gabriel Gonzaga as part of the UFC 162 preliminary bouts scheduled to air on the FX network. Herman had a UFC 136 bout with Mike Russow cancelled when he failed a preliminary drug test. He then failed a post-fight drug test following his loss to Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira at UFC 153. He tested positive for marijuana both times. Herman was suspended for six months and required to undergo a drug treatment program following his failed test at UFC 153. If he passes the test and fights at UFC 162, Herman is still not in the clear

The Nevada State Athletic Commission today granted UFC heavyweight Dave Herman (21-5 MMA, 1-3 UFC) a one-fight license to fight Gabriel Gonzaga (14-7 MMA, 9-6 UFC) at UFC 162, but the permission came with strings – and the third degree. The commission grilled the fighter about a previous marijuana suspension and run-ins with the law before ordering him to be drug tested today at his own expense. The fighter must be clean to get the go-ahead and also is subject to random testing. “It isn’t just us him asking for his word,” NSAC chair Bill Brady said during a meeting today in Las Vegas, where UFC 162 will take place July 6 at MGM Grand Garden Arena. “I look at it as not what you owe to this commission, but what you owe to the UFC for helping you with your rehab and making commitments to them. “They put a lot of money into these fights, and if you fail, that’s a difficult situation.” The UFC reinsted the 28-year-old Herman to fight in April after he completed a 30-day term in rehab, which the promotion ordered after it flagged him for pot following a submission loss to Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira at UFC 153. The head of the Nevada State Athletic Commission says criticism of officials won’t influence future assignments, to the contrary of UFC President Dana White’s recent comments. This past weekend following UFC 161, White blasted referee Steve Mazzagatti’s officiating in the World Series of Fighting 3 main event between Jon Fitch and Josh Burkman , saying Fitch’s safety was endangered when Mazzagatti failed to notice the fighter going unconscious from a guillotine choke early in the fight. (watch the Burkman vs. Fitch fight video .) At the same time, White lamented that his continued targeting of Mazzagatti would ensure the referee would continue to get big fights. “The Nevada State Athletic Commission will keep this guy around until he seriously hurts somebody,” White said to a small group of reporters following a post-event news conference for UFC 161, which MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) attended. “That guy is dangerous.” Fitch found himself caught in the chokehold after a brief exchange of punches early in the fight, which took place at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas and was overseen by the NSAC. As Fitch staggered to the canvas, Burkman secured the submission and fell to his back. Fitch reached to free himself, but then went unconscious.
