Patricio ‘Pitbull’ Freire believes judging favors Americans, cost him titles

Patricio Freire has two losses in his career – both by split decision, and both in Bellator title fights. Split decisions, by nature, are more often than not going to be controversial with each fighter typically believing he did enough to get the nod. In “Pitbull” Freire’s case, he believes in his two losses, he not only did enough, but that being Brazilian didn’t work in his favor. “Both losses were against world champions, and both by split decision,” Freire told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com). “I believe if the judges were Brazilian, I would have been awarded the win in both occasions. One FC Returns to Jakarta in September, Featuring Flyweight Championship

One Fighting Championship is returning to Jakarta on Sept. 13 for a show that will be headlined by a flyweight world title fight between Japanese rivals Yasuhiro Urushitani and Shinichi Kojima . The show takes place at the 15,000-seat Istora Senayan. The main event features two fighters who have faced each other on two previous occasions. Urushitani and Kojima met 2005 and 2007 while competing for Shooto with both bouts both ending in a draw. The fight between Kojima (20-6-6) and Rey Docyogen at One FC: Return of Warriors in Kuala Lumpur earlier this year was a designated title eliminator, which the Japanese veteran won with a guillotine choke late in the second round. Urushitani (20-6-6) is also coming off a win over Docyogen, whom he defeated via split decision at One FC: Rise to Power in Manila last month

Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira and Fabricio Werdum ‘s first meeting nine years ago with the now-defunct PRIDE promotion was a snapshot of two fighters miles apart in their development as fighters. Werdum (16-5-1 MMA, 4-2 UFC) then was 10 fights into his career as an MMA fighter who had transitioned to the burgeoning sport from the world of competitive jiu-jitsu. Stats for the fight reflected his skills: He took Nogueira down 10 times and only gave up three. Nogueira (34-7-1 MMA, 5-3 UFC), while no longer at the apex of his career after losing his PRIDE title to Fedor Emelianenko , still was considered one of the most formidable heavyweights in the division. For that fight, he didn’t need to use the jiu-jitsu skills that previously had served him so well. Instead, he was far more effective in exploiting Werdum’s relative lack of experience in striking. He landed more total strikes and knocked down Werdum on four occasions. In the end, it was Nogueira’s experience that carried the day, with judges awarding him a unanimous-decision win after three rounds.
