ONE Championship 102 is in the books, and you can check out the highlights right here on MMA Junkie. ONE Championship 101 took place Friday at Mall of Asia Arena in Manila, Philippines, and streamed on B/R Live. In the main event, Joshua Pacio defended his strawweight title with a second-round arm-triangle choke against Rene Catalan. Gustavo Balart is known for his incredible chin, but he couldn’t take this head kick from Robin Catalan . At “ONE Championship: Masters of Fate” on Friday in Manila, Philippines, Catalan (9-6 MMA) blasted Balart (8-4 MMA) with a massive head kick in the second round, instantly knocking out his opponent cold and sending him face first to the canvas, in front of his hometown crowd. ONE Championship atomweight Bi Nguyen opened her career undefeated and thought she knew exactly where she was going – only to find out she absolutely didn’t. “You plan it out,” Nguyen told MMA Junkie. “I went 4-0 in the beginning of my career, and you plan it out – you say, ‘I’m going to go undefeated. I’m going to fight here in this circuit, then I’m get over here and get to the UFC’ or wherever.

Stamp Fairtex’s plan for bringing MMA to Thailand includes a third world title

It should perhaps be no surprise that Thailand’s Stamp Fairtex is a world champion in both kickboxing and muay Thai. After all, in her native country, the striking arts are truly a part of the nation’s fabric. “Muay Thai is very important in Thailand, especially for the people from the countryside,” Fairtex told MMA Junkie through an interpreter. “It’s our culture, but it’s also a way for people to make a living. It’s become an opportunity for some of the poorer people in the country to make money by learning to fight, and maybe they could even become a world champion.” That was the path Fairtex took, as well, and at 22 years old, she’s already spent some 17 years training and competing in standup disciplines.
