ONE Championship 118: Reinier De Ridder submits Aung La N Sang to capture middleweight title

Dutch grappling ace Reinier de Ridder told anyone who was prepared to listen that he would take down and submit two-division ONE champion Aung La N Sang , and he made good on his promise as he dramatically dethroned the ONE middleweight champion in Singapore. De Ridder (13-0) wasted no time in taking the defending champion to the mat, before controlling “The Burmese Python” and eventually working his way to N Sang’s back. Once there, the Dutchman patiently worked his way toward a submission as he fought hands with the Myanmar athlete before locking up a rear-naked choke that forced N Sang (26-11) to tap out and concede defeat at the 3:26 mark of the opening round. De Ridder’s win snapped N Sang’s seven-fight win streak in ONE, and saw him crowned ONE middleweight champion as he extended his undefeated record and claimed the 10th submission finish of his career.

ONE Championship 118: Christian Lee hands Iuri Lapicus his first loss, retains lightweight title

ONE lightweight champion Christian Lee cemented his status as the promotion’s premier lightweight with a first-round finish of the previously undefeated Iuri Lapicus in Singapore. Lee (14-3) put his lightweight title on the line against noted first-round finisher Lapicus (14-1) in the co-main event of “ONE Championship 118: Inside the Matrix,” which took place Friday at Singapore Indoor Stadium, Singapore, and the Hawaiian champion took the fight straight to the challenger from the opening bell. Lee came flying out the gate and charged across the cage to deny the Moldovan any chance to compose himself, but the champion’s attempt to take the action to the ground ended with Lapicus turning the tables and taking Lee to the mat.

ONE Championship 118: Thanh Le goes toe-to-toe, knocks out Martin Nguyen to win featherweight title

Thanh Le put his faith in his fists and his footwork, and it paid off in stunning fashion at ONE Championship 118. Le (12-2) challenged Martin Nguyen for the ONE featherweight title at “ONE Championship 118: Inside the Matrix” at Singapore Indoor Stadium, Singapore, and went toe-to-toe with fellow knockout artist Nguyen (13-4) for three rounds before eventually stunning the Australian champion in the fourth to claim the title. Le spent the first three rounds presenting a constantly moving target as he worked from the outer reaches of the cage and blitzed in with striking combinations before swiftly moving out of range of Nguyen’s powerful overhand right. After three frustrating rounds, Nguyen upped the intensity at the start of Round 4 and started to connect with heavy shots to the head and body as the champion appeared to be turning the momentum in his favor.

ONE Championship 118: Xiong Jing Nan repeats the feat, defeats Tiffany Teo to retain title

China’s Xiong Jing Nan retained her ONE women’s strawweight title at ONE Championship 118, but her rematch win over Tiffany Teo proved to be a much tougher assignment the second time around. Xiong (15-2) defeated Singapore’s Teo (9-2) via fourth-round TKO back in January 2018 to claim the inaugural strawweight title at “ONE Championship 66: Kings of Courage” and went on to register three defenses of her title, while Teo bounced back with a pair of victories to push herself back into title contention. The pair met in the rematch on Friday at “ONE Championship 118: Inside the Matrix” at Singapore Indoor Stadium, as an improved Teo pushed “The Panda” all the way to the scorecards in a tightly-contested five-round battle that was spent predominantly on the feet. However, despite turning in a stronger showing and causing Xiong problems with her cardio and snapping straight jab, Teo couldn’t quite do enough in the stand-up to earn the nod from the three cageside judges, who awarded the Chinese champion a unanimous decision victory

Two-division ONE champion Aung La N Sang planning to focus on middleweight reign

Two-division champion Aung La N Sang returns to action in Singapore on Friday looking to hand an undefeated challenger his first defeat. N Sang (26-10) puts his ONE middleweight title on the line against unbeaten Dutch challenger Reinier De Ridder (12-0) in the main event of “ONE Championship 118: Inside the Matrix.” Ahead of his title fight, “The Burmese Python” chatted to MMA Junkie Radio to discuss the matchup, look back at his past fights and reveal some of the work he does away from the cage as an ambassador for the sport, and the martial art of his homeland of Myanmar, Lethwei.
