She is one of the greatest female mixed martial artists in history. Above all, she has a heart of gold. Recent ONE Championship signees Demetrious Johnson and Eddie Alvarez are in Singapore to make their first public appearances with their new employer, and it turns out their paths in the promotion will be similar. ONE Championship officials today revealed that both fighters will be featured in a pair of upcoming world grand prix tournaments, in both the flyweight and lightweight divisions.

Angela Lee ’s dual-championship hopes will have to wait. Lee (9-0), who’s currently ONE Championship’s atomweight titleholder, was set to challenge Jing Nan Xiong (13-1) for the promotion’s strawweight belt in the headliner of Friday’s ONE Championship 83 event, but a back injury has forced her out of the card. ONE Championship CEO Chatri Sityodtong announced the news on his Facebook page Sunday and said it was his call to pull the fighter, despite her reluctance. “If it was up to her, she would still compete this week, even if it meant walking into the cage on crutches,” Sityodtong said

ONE Championship CEO questions Angela Lee’s decision to move up, go for second title

ONE Championship CEO Chatri Sityodtong thinks Angela Lee could be making a serious mistake as she pursues women’s MMA history next month at ONE Championship 83. Lee (9-0), the organization’s current atomweight champion, will attempt to become the first simultaneous two-division titleholder in women’s MMA history when she challenges women’s strawweight champ Jing Nan Xiong (13-1) in a headlining contest. Although Lee is unbeaten and has been successful in her own weight class, she’s opted to move up a weight class for the bout with Xiong. From Sityodtong’s perspective, that might not be the wisest choice. “I actually don’t know why Angela is doing this moving up to fight a bigger, stronger, faster champion,” Sityodtong told reporters, including MMAjunkie on a recent ONE Championship 83 media call. “This could be Angela’s first potential loss.
