ONE Championship: Empower results – Jing Nan Xiong dominates Michelle Nicolini to retain title

On an historic card for ONE Championship, Jing Nan Xiong kept her belt and staved off Michelle Nicolini ’s hope to become the promotion’s next superstar. Xiong (16-2) outworked Nicolini (6-3) on the feet and mostly stayed away from Nicolini’s submission attempts and hopes for the fight to play out on the canvas. In doing so, Xiong retained the women’s strawweight title in the ONE Championship: Empower main event Friday at Singapore Indoor Stadium

Zamboanga (8-0) has what could be the biggest test yet in her MMA career when she takes on Seo Hee Ham (23-8) on Friday in the ONE Championship: Empower co-main event. Not only does Ham have four UFC fights on her resume, but she’s unbeaten the past four years. The fight is a quarterfinal bout in ONE’s atomweight tournament and takes place on the promotion’s first all-female card in its history

ONE Championship rolls out cinematic preview video ahead of historic all-women event

For the first time in ONE Championship’s 10-year history, the promotion is hosting an all women’s card, and the organization is giving the event special treatment. With a nine-bout lineup that includes top female athletes in MMA, kickboxing and muay Thai, the promotion is billing Friday’s “ ONE Championship: Empower ” event in Singapore as “the first all-women’s fight card hosted by a major global martial arts organization.” The card streams live on B/R live. The night’s main event is a strawweight title fight between reigning champion Jing Nan Xiong (15-2) against highly decorated Brazilian jiu-jitsu ace Michelle Nicolini (6-2), while the main card also features all four opening round matchups in the promotion’s atomweight grand prix, with the tournament winner ultimately earning a shot at reigning champion Angela Lee. Alyse Anderson sees more weight in being a ONE Championship title holder than an Invicta FC one. Anderson (5-1), who asked for her release from Invicta FC with one fight left on her contract, has signed with the Asian-based promotion after three fights under the Invicta FC banner. While she appreciates her time there, the 25-year-old was having a hard time getting up for a fight and wanted to take her career to the next level. “I’m not interested in going back to Invicta,” Anderson told MMA Junkie Radio. “I don’t want to hate on their promotion or anything, they’re a great promotion. But I just for me feel like I’d rather fight exclusively for ONE and just being the atomweight champion for Invicta doesn’t get me pumped up and excited
