ONE FC 19 weigh-in results: Three title fights, including Suzuki-Askren, official in Dubai

The weigh-ins for Friday’s ONE FC 19 are in the books, and the nine-fight card is official in Dubai, including the three title fights at the top of the bill. In the main event, the lightweight title is on the line as Shinya Aoki (35-6) takes on Kamal Shalorus (9-3-2). Both fighters were on the mark, with champion Aoki coming in at 155 pounds and WEC and UFC veteran Shalorus two pounds under at 153. The co-feature sees former Bellator MMA champion Ben Askren (13-0), one of the world’s top welterweights, get his first shot at a ONE FC title as he takes on champ Nobutatsu Suzuki (11-1-2) for the belt. Both fighters were 170 pounds on the nose, with Askren needing the towel to hit the weight.

Herbert Burns ‘ MMA career had lasted all of 25 seconds before he found it virtually impossible to find a willing opponent. That ultimately led him to a few moves, an eventual arrival in Singapore, and a contract with ONE FC. Now, Burns (3-0), a Brazilian grappling specialist (and the younger brother of UFC fighter Gilbert Burns), meets Japanese knockout artist Hiroshige Tanaka (10-1) on Friday at “ONE FC 19: Reign of Champions” at Dubai World Trade Centre in the United Arab Emirates. Burns, whose featherweight bout streams in North America as an online pay-per-view, moved around Brazil (where he often trained with lifelong friend and UFC contender Rafael dos Anjos) before a move to Sweden and eventual home at Evolve MMA in Singapore. “I’ve been in Singapore for nine months this time around,” he told MMAjunkie. “I was invited by their black belt jiu-jitsu instructor, Bruno Pucci.

This was June 2012, Kuala Lumpur’s Stadium Negara, and Huerta was about to find out the hard way what happens to people who step into the cage when their hearts aren’t it. Moreira took a slow step back, resting his right hand almost tenderly on a downed Huerta’s back, then took full advantage of the ONE FC rules with a soccer kick that seemed to lift Huerta off the canvas before settling him back down, where he rolled onto his back like a dead man. That was Huerta’s most recent fight, his fourth consecutive loss, and sixth in seven outings
