Of the 10 fights, nine ended with a knockout or submission. And there were some brutal ones, including a 17-second knockout from newly crowned middleweight champion Igor Svirid  (10-1) over  Leandro Ataides (8-1) in the headliner. Additionally, in the co-headliner, Koji Ando  (11-3-2) used the final minute of his three-rounder with lightweight Zorobabel Moreira  (7-3) to unload a barrage of punches and soccer kicks to bring about a brutal stoppage. Santos (60-9-1) wants to get his hands on 170-pound kingpin Ben Askren (14-0), but first he must emerge victorious against Bakhtiyar Abbasov (12-3) in his promotional debut at ONE FC 22. The event takes place Friday and streams via online pay-per-view at Singapore Indoor Stadium in Kallang, Singapore. “With a couple of victories, I could already be fighting for Ben Askren’s belt,” Santos told MMAjunkie. “That’s why I’ve been working hard on my wrestling.” Abbasov suffered a first-round submission loss to Askren in May and will serve as a solid barometer for Santos’ potential of dethroning the champion.

A friend introduced me to Wendell Alexander around the time he co-founded Nova Uniao.
