Rony Jason vs. Jeremy Stephens targeted for unannounced UFC Fight Night 29 event

A featherweight matchup between Rony Jason (13-3 MMA, 3-0 UFC) and Jeremy Stephens (21-9 MMA, 8-8 UFC) has been targeted for as as-yet-unannounced event expected to serve as UFC Fight Night 29. The bout is expected to take place on Oct. 9 in Brazil, at a city and venue to be determined. The night’s main card is expected to air on FOX Sports 1, but official plans have yet to be revealed. The Jason vs. Stephens contest was first reported by MMAWeekly.com, and Stephens also took to Facebook to confirm his participation. “Looks like my first trip to Brazil will be fighting in hostile territory on a UFC main card,” Stephens wrote

Dave Herman Passes UFC 162 Pre-Fight Drug Test, Cleared to Face Gabriel Gonzaga

UFC heavyweight Dave Herman has passed a required pre-fight drug test, gaining approval to fight Gabriel Gonzaga at UFC 162 on Saturday at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. The fight is part of the UFC 162 preliminary bouts scheduled to air on the FX network. Herman was required to go before the Nevada State Athletic Commission on Friday to plead his case to gain approval for a license to fight at Saturday’s event. He has twice failed drug tests for marijuana in the past, and the commission had concerns about his participation at UFC 162. After assuring the commission that he could pass a drug test on the spot, the NSAC said it would issue Herman a one-fight license to compete at UFC 162 , but the license would be contingent upon him passing an immediate drug test.

LAS VEGAS – UFC women’s bantamweight contender Miesha Tate soon will become the latest fighter to appear nude in ESPN the Magazine’s “Body Issue.” While the publication strives for artful shots done in a tasteful fashion, Tate admits her participation wasn’t a decision she took lightly. “I’m not going to lie, I was a little nervous when they first approached me,” Tate (13-4 MMA, 0-1 UFC) told USA TODAY Sports. “It really took some quality group decision-making for me to do it. But now that I did it, it was an awesome experience, and I’m definitely very honored to be a part of this issue.” Tate is in Las Vegas filming Season 18 of “The Ultimate Fighter,” in which she serves as a team coach opposite her rival, UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey .

Despite Report to the Contrary, UFC on Fox Sports 1: Shogun vs. Sonnen Not in Jeopardy

Despite a report to the contrary, the UFC on Fox Sports 1: Shogun vs. Sonnen fight card is not in jeopardy. The fight card is slated of Aug. 17 in Boston, and is also supposed to serve as part of the launch-day programming for the new Fox Sports One nationwide sports network. The Boston Herald , however, reported on Tuesday that there are concerns over the participation of foreign-born fighters, such as main eventer Mauricio “Shogun” Rua . There is a Massachusetts state law requiring all mixed martial arts competitors to have a Social Security number, including foreign-born fighters
