In a bit of a shocker, Myron Dennis became Legacy Fighting Championship’s new light heavyweight titleholder, upsetting UFC, Strikeforce and Bellator veteran Paul Buentello . Dennis took a split decision from “The Headhunter” in a close fight at Legacy FC 29. He took a pair of 49-46 scores to a 48-47 for Buentello, though the early buzz was that many saw the fight the other way. Legacy FC 29 took place at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Tulsa, Okla.

Legacy FC signs UFC vet Aaron Rosa, targets Paul Buentello matchup

Big-show vet Aaron Rosa , a recent UFC competitor, has signed with Legacy FC and has already been targeted for a matchup with another familiar name. Legacy FC promoter Mick Maynard today told MMAjunkie that Rosa (17-6) has signed a multi-fight deal and is being targeted for a fight with fellow light heavyweight Paul Buentello (33-15) at Legacy FC 28. The event takes place Feb. 21 at Cowboys Dancehall in San Antonio

The results were better than some may have anticipated. Buentello staved off a rear naked choke attempted throughout much of the first round of his bout with fellow former UFC fighter James McSweeney.

Marcus Sursa (12-8) has been forced out of his main event light heavyweight fight against Paul Buentello (32-15) at Legacy FC 22. Stepping in for him will be James McSweeney (11-10). Promotion officials recently confirmed the news to MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) for the Aug. 23 card, which takes place in Lubbock, Texas, likely at Fairgrounds Park Coliseum

Texas native Paul Buentello will try to make it four straight when he headlines Legacy FC 22 in front of his home crowd later this summer. Buentello (32-15) meets Marcus Sursa (12-8) in a light heavyweight bout to headline the Aug. 23 show in Lubbock, Texas. Legacy Fighting Championship officials recently announced the show, which will have a six-fight main card that airs live on AXS TV. Although Legacy FC has not yet announced a venue for the event, sources close to the promotion told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) that Fairgrounds Park Coliseum is being considered as host. Buentello, a former UFC and Strikeforce heavyweight title challenger, has won three straight with a pair of knockouts. The 39-year-old “Headhunter” is 5-5 in his past 10 bouts, which started with an 0-2 stretch in his return to the UFC with losses to Stefan Struve and Cheick Kongo .
