Pedro Falcao will make his UFC debut on three days’ notice Saturday in Las Vegas. After Heili Alateng fell ill days before UFC Fight Night 240 at the UFC Apex, Falcao (16-3 MMA, 0-0 UFC) was signed to fight fellow Brazilian Victor Hugo (24-4 MMA, 0-0 UFC), the promotion announced Wednesday. MMA Mania was first to report the new booking. Falcao, 31, is a member of Xtreme Couture, and he competed on Dana White’s Contender Series in 2021 when he finished James Barnes with ground-and-pound. Dana White’s Contender Series cards see prospects fighting for the opportunity to sign a UFC deal, with UFC president Dana White on hand to make the decisions. In the featured bout, Syndicate MMA welterweight Jonny Parsons (8-2) took on eight-time CFFC veteran Solomon Renfro (8-2) and scored a UFC deal after a hard-fought split-decision win.

With a combined professional MMA experience of nearly two decades, James Barnes and Pedro Falcao will finally get their big chances on Oct. 19. The pair of featherweight fighters are set to square off at Dana White’s Contender Series 44 at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. The event will serve as the eighth installment of the series’ fifth season. Two people with knowledge of the matchup informed MMA Junkie of the booking Tuesday but asked to remain anonymous as the promotion has yet to make an official announcement. Barnes (14-4) has spent time in a handful of notable MMA promotions
