There has been a major scandal brewing in the world of sports, once again centering on illegal performance enhancing drugs and treatments. There are claims that Biogenesis and its founder, Tony Bosch, have been providing PEDs to numerous athletes in the professional sports world. Thus far, the spotlight and accusations have focused primarily on Major League Baseball stars like Alex Rodriguez and Ryan Braun. The man who blew the whistle on Biogenesis, Porter Fischer, recently indicated that there are athletes from numerous other sports involved as well, specifically mentioning the NBA and mixed martial arts. There was no indication who the mixed martial artists involved were, but as with anything MMA, UFC president Dana White , at his UFC on Fox 8 post-fight scrum with reporters, was grilled about the Biogenesis scandal and the questions about what if a UFC fighter was involved. Report: Whistleblower says MMA fighters also were Biogenesis PED clients

In addition to some high-profile MLB players, the Florida-based Biogenesis clinic also supplied performance-enhancing drugs to MMA fighters, a whistleblower reportedly claims. According to ESPN’s ” Outside the Lines ,” Biogenesis employee-turned-whistleblower Porter Fischer said the client list stretches beyond MLB and includes “athletes from the NBA, NCAA, professional boxing, tennis and MMA, in addition to other professional baseball players who have not yet been identified.” He hasn’t yet identified the athletes. After backpay issues with clinic founder Tony Bosch, Fischer turned over documents to the Miami New Times in 2012. It ultimately led to an MLB investigation and the recent suspension of Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Ryan Braun, the 2011 National League MVP. However, his intention to spark a federal investigation of Biogenesis and Bosch never came to fruition.

UFC 161 Drug Test Results: Randomly Tested Fighters Clean; No Therapeutic Use Exemptions

The Manitoba Combative Sports Commission had random drug testing conducted at UFC 161: Evans vs. Henderson on June 15 in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. All athletes tested returned negative results, passing the tests. “Ten of the twenty-two athletes were randomly tested for performance-enhancing drugs and recreational drugs/drugs of abuse,” Joel Fingard, the Manitoba commission’s executive director, told MMAWeekly.com on Tuesday.

‘UFC 162: Silva vs. Weidman’ drug tests come back clean

All 22 fighters who competed at this month’s UFC 162 evnet tested clean for performance-enhancing drugs and recreational drugs/drugs of abuse. MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) today received the drug-testing results from the Nevada State Athletic Commission, which oversaw the July 6 event at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. The main event saw longtime middleweight champion Anderson Silva (33-5 MMA, 16-1 UFC) finally dethroned after 16 straight UFC wins and 10 successful title defenses. Challenger Chris Weidman (10-0 MMA, 6-0 UFC) knocked Silva out in the second round.

Carina Damm will appeal suspension, says manager

The manager of Carina Damm says the fighter will appeal a six-month suspension and $550 fine from the Ohio State Athletic Commission. Jason Ellis of Relentless Sports Management today told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) that Damm denies submitting a false urine sample to the commission following a fight in Cleveland earlier this month. Ellis added that Damm told him she not take performance-enhancing drugs prior to the competition. “I don’t have all the facts,” Ellis said. “I spoke with Carina and her husband briefly, and my understanding is that she’s not doing anything she’s not supposed to be doing. I was told that she isn’t, so I’m going to support my client and see the facts through.” Damm (18-9), who’s married to Bellator vet Luis Santos and is the sister of UFC featherweight Rodrigo Damm , is suspended for six months retroactive to the date of her fight, which took place June 1 at “NAAFS: Fight Night in the Flats 9.” She lost a decision in a catchweight bout against Bellator vet Jessica Eye (10-1), which at the time was her third consecutive setback. Two weeks later, she fought in Brazil and earned a first-round TKO in another regional event

World Series of Fighting 3 drug tests come back clean

All 18 fighters who competed at this month’s World Series of Fighting 3 card tested clean for performance-enhancing drugs and recreational drugs/drugs of abuse. MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) today received the drug-testing results from the Nevada State Athletic Commission, which oversaw the June 14 event at The Joint at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas. The main event saw former UFC fighters Jon Fitch and Josh Burkman meeting in a welterweight bout. It was Fitch’s debut with the promotion after being unexpectedly released by the UFC earlier this year. Burkman clipped Fitch with a punch early in the fight in an exchange, knocking him off his feet. Burkman immediately pounced him him and locked in a standing guillotine choke. He dropped to his back and held the choke until Fitch went limp – when he released the hold, stopping the fight himself. The fight has become controversial because of referee Steve Mazzagatti not seeing that Fitch was out and stopping the fight himself.

Every UFC on Fuel TV 10 Fighter Returned Clean Drug Test Results

The Brazilian Athletic Commission (CABMMA) announced on Friday that all fighters tested on the UFC on Fuel TV 10 fight card that took place on June 8 at the Ginásio Paulo Sarasate in Fortaleza, Brazil, returned negative test results for illegal drugs, performance enhancing drugs, stimulants and masking agents. Every fighter on the card submitted pre-fight urine samples. Four randomly chosen fighters submitted post-fight urine samples, as well as main event fighters Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira and Fabricio Werdum . Werdum defeated Nogueira in the featured attraction by submission. Leonardo Santos became the second The Ultimate Fighter: Brazil winner by submitting William Macario in the co-main event. The card set the record for number of submission finishes on a single UFC event with eight. The previous record was six.

All 26 competitors who underwent drug testing at UFC on FUEL TV 10 this past weekend successfully passed their tests. The Comissao Atletica Brasileira de MMA (Brazilian Athletic Commission) today confirmed the results with MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com). UFC on FUEL TV 10 took place June 8 at Paulo Sarasate Arena in Fortaleza, Ceara, Brazil. The main card, which saw Fabricio Werdum submit fellow heavyweight Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira , aired on FUEL TV following Facebook prelims. According to the CABMMA, all 26 of the event’s fighters underwent pre-fight urine tests. WINNIPEG – Considering he’s a guy who’s usually already at a disadvantage by fighting guys who tower over him and weigh more, you may be surprised just how little Pat Barry cares about his fellow heavyweights using performance-enhancing drugs. Barry (8-5 MMA, 5-5 UFC) , who fights friend Shawn Jordan (14-4 MMA, 2-1 UFC) on Saturday’s UFC 161 pay-per-view main card, suffered a May 2012 loss to Lavar Johnson . The fan favorite then watched Johnson test positive for elevated levels of testosterone just two fights later. While fans were quick to surmise that Johnson may have been using banned substances in their fight too, Barry scoffs at the notion and quickly dismisses it. In fact, he said he doesn’t care if fighters are using them. He doesn’t, he said. But others? It’s of no concern.
