When former Tachi Palace Fights flyweight champion Ian McCall inked a deal with the UFC in late 2011, he had high expectations. He entered the 2012 UFC Flyweight Tournament to determine the inaugural UFC 125-pound champion. He faced Demetrious Johnson in the opening round and the two fought to a draw. Johnson was originally declared the winner, but after a scoring error correction, the fight was ruled a draw. Johnson defeated McCall by unanimous decision in a rematch. In his next outing, McCall faced Joseph Benavidez and lost via unanimous decision. He’s gone 0-2-1 in his three UFC fights, and was not in a good place mentally. His personal life was coming unraveled as well as his career. The 29-year-old fighter made changes in his life, eliminated some relationships, distanced himself from others, and is ready to move forward inside and outside of the cage. “I’m in a much better place. You know, I’ve kind of blown my UFC career so far, but now it’s time to earn what’s rightfully mine,” McCall told MMAWeekly.com content partner Knockout Radio . “I’ve always been physically ready. Every fight, I’ve always been in shape. I’ve always been there. Just for me it’s a mental thing because I can be a head case and that really has been what’s gotten me down in the past, but I took personal steps in my personal life, new relationships, new whatever it may be to just change for the better.

After fighting just once in all of 2012, heavyweight Bobby Lashley (9-2) racked up two wins in the past month alone. If things go according to his plans, Lashley could have as many as six fights under his belt by year’s end. “There’s a couple organizations right now that we’re talking about doing a multi-fight deal with, so it’s just time to feel some things out,” Lashley told MMAjunkie.com Radio (www.mmajunkie.com/radio). “It’s time to figure out who would like to have me for the next few fights.” Lashley, who recently took some time off from MMA to work a few things out in his personal life, has returned to the sport with a vengeance, earning two wins in a span of just 22 days, both coming by way of submission. Both victories came against fighters coming off losses, but Lashley believes they were the right opponents for him to continue his development as a fighter. If anything, he’s looking forward to the future. Having recently signed a four-fight contract with the World Series of Fighting , Fitch feels he’s found a home where he can not only support his personal life, but also take his professional career to the next level. “I feel like I’m perfectly on track,” he said. “My home and financial situation is going good, World Series of Fighting is taking care of me, and I have some great sponsors that are involved with me for this next fight. I’m excited about this fight and take the next step in my life.
