LAS VEGAS – The PFL returns to Las Vegas on Friday at Mandalay Bay Events Center, with British featherweight Brendan Loughnane set to make his promotional debut in a featured non-tournament bout at PFL Playoffs 1. Loughnane takes on American Matt Wagy in a featherweight contest, and the Brit has left nothing to chance as he ensured he arrived in Las Vegas in good time ahead of the bout.

Sarah Kaufman isn’t worried about layoff heading into PFL semifinals

Sarah Kaufman certainly has logged more cage time than any other female on the PFL roster, which is why selecting to walk over to the semifinals wasn’t too difficult of a choice. Kaufman was scheduled to face Roberta Samad in July before Samad missed weight, giving the already No. 1 seed Kaufman the choice to either fight or move on automatically to the playoffs. With a guaranteed paycheck, Kaufman didn’t see the point in taking potential unnecessary damage. The tournament format already set her next fight, and the goal is to make it to the finals to try and win $1 million. “For sure I would have loved to have fought a second time to have that continuous momentum pushing forward,” Kaufman told MMA Junkie.

Brendan Loughnane on PFL debut: ‘I’m coming for straight savagery and knockouts’

British featherweight Brendan Loughnane has his first PFL assignment, and the 29-year-old cannot wait to get over to Las Vegas and put on a show on prime time television. As first reported by ESPN, Loughnane (17-3 MMA, 0-0 PFL) will take on Team Alpha Male prospect Matt Wagy (13-6 MMA, 0-0 PFL) at PFL 7 on Oct. 11 at the Mandalay Bay Events Center, and the Manchester man is bristling with excitement ahead of his promotional debut. “It’s an absolute dream come true,” he told MMA Junkie. “Since I first went to Las Vegas when I was 21, all I’ve ever wanted to do was fight in Las Vegas under the big lights. The scene is set for an epic debut and I could not be happier

Manager: LeRoy Johnson required emergency vertebrae surgery after frightening KO at PFL 7

LeRoy Johnson suffered a significant injury at PFL 7 that required emergency neck surgery. Johnson (8-3), who suffered a frightening first-round knockout loss against Muhammed DeReese (6-0) on Thursday’s fight card, was rushed to a local hospital after being down for nearly eight minutes at the conclusion of the fight. After absorbing a massive knee to the chin, Johnson face-planted into the canvas and seemingly hit his head on the cage post on the way down. The 38-year-old was transported to a hospital nearby where the event was being held, and according to Johnson’s manager, Daniel Rubenstein, an emergency procedure was required (via Twitter ): For those wondering about LeRoy Johnson, here’s the update I have. had emergency surgery for a vertebrae that slipped out of place & a 2nd surgery for high blood pressure issues. Has feeling in arms and legs.

LeRoy Johnson was down for a scary-long time after taking faceplant KO at PFL 7

The first fight of the night at PFL 7 featured one of the best – and scariest – knockouts of the month. Muhammed DeReese (6-0) put LeRoy Johnson (8-3) down and out in absolutely vicious fashion courtesy of a perfectly placed knee strike in the opening round of their light heavyweight bout at PFL 7, which took place at Ocean Resort Casino in Atlantic City, N.J. Johnson went down face-first into the canvas after absorbing the blow, not only hitting his head on the mat, but the cage post, as well. He was down for roughly seven minutes before getting back to his feet in what was a rather frightening scene. Check out a clip of the knockout below (via Twitter ): Good god
