The second of three PFL Playoffs card has not gone as planned. Four fights were canceled in the week leading up to the card, but thankfully none of the playoff fights were affected. After a lackluster preliminary card, the playoff bouts started with a first round submission. Marina Mokhnatkina woke up the New York crowd by forcing Amber Leibrock to tap and was the first semifinals to secure their spot in the finals on Friday night. After that came the heavyweight men. Heavy favorite Denis Goltsov proved why he’s the one to beat when he submit Jordan Heiderman in the very first round. After that 2022 lightweight champion Larissa Pacheco made history when she broke her own KO record after finishing Olena Kolesnyk in just seconds. The main event, Renan Ferreira kept the first round finish train going with a KO of Maurice Greene to advance to the finals. The Professional Fighters League hosted its second of three playoff events for heavyweights and welterweights. In the main event was MMA legend Rory MacDonald hoping to get to the finals after his failed first attempt in the 2021 season.

Anthony Pettis reveals he broke both his hands in second loss to Stevie Ray

Friday was not Anthony Pettis ‘ night. After losing a decisive decision to Stevie Ray in their rematch, the former UFC champion said he also suffered two broken hands. The loss, which eliminated him from the PFL Finals, was his second straight loss, his last coming by way of first-round submission to none other than Ray. Throughout the week, the spotlight was on Pettis who made several appearances for the promotion including ringing the bell at the NYSE and speaking to youth at a teen center in Brooklyn. But it was Ray who turned out to be the star that night.

Former UFC champion Anthony Pettis was looking to make his mark in PFL after a disappointing debut season in 2021. He won his first fight of the 2022 season via a first-round submission earning him enough points to guarantee his spot in the playoffs but lost via a highlight reel finish at the hands of Stevie Ray, who he looked to avenge in the PFL Playoffs on Friday in New York City. But it was Ray who came out on top on Friday night when he dominated the former champion everywhere it counted, proving not only was he not just a one-hit wonder but he could hang foe three rounds with Pettis and come out looking like gold.
