The first European Series event of Bellator’s 2020 schedule has been confirmed, with the promotion announcing its return to Dublin, Ireland on Feb. 22. The atmospheric 3Arena will play host to Bellator Europe 7, which will be headlined by the organization’s biggest Irish star, bantamweight James Gallagher , who will take on England’s Cal Ellenor . The pair were originally booked to face off at Bellator Europe 4 in September, but issues with Ellenor’s brain scans forced the Sunderland native off the card, as the Englishman released an emotional statement explaining his situation . Gallagher (10-1 MMA, 7-1 BMMA) stayed on the card and defeated short-notice replacement Roman Salazar via guillotine choke in just 35 seconds, while Ellenor (8-2 MMA, 1-0 BMMA) chased a second opinion on his scans and subsequently received the news that he was cleared to fight again

Philip Mulpeter out at Cage Warriors 74, Tom Breese meets Thibaud Larchet

Saturday’s Cage Warriors 74 event in London has had a lineup change just a few days before the fight. Ireland’s Philip Mulpeter (7-4) has been forced out of his welterweight fight against Tom Breese (6-0) due to a cut above his left eye. Stepping in for Mulpeter will be promotional newcomer Thibaud Larchet (6-1) on short notice. Cage Warriors officials announced the new contest on Thursday morning. Cage Warriors 74 takes place at Copper Box Arena in London’s Olympic Park. Once again, the event will feature a pair of main cards, both of which will stream live on MMAjunkie

To the surprise of many, five-time UFC veteran John Maguire was upset by healthy underdog Saul Rogers after three rounds of closely contested action in the Cage Warriors 65 headliner. Saturday’s event, which streamed on MMAjunkie from The Helix in Dublin, saw the significantly younger and less experienced Rogers (8-1) hold his own and more against Maguire (19-7) to take a unanimous decision victory, and the most notable win of his young career. Maguire expected his winning streak and subsequent climb back to the UFC’s octagon to take another positive step forward against Rogers, but that obviously didn’t go as planned. The 24-year-old Rogers stayed away from the dangerous submissions of “The One” when he needed to and patiently waited for his moments to attack. With the loss, Maguire drops to a dismal 1-4 in his past five fights, while Rogers recorded his second consecutive victory under the Cage Warriors banner. Alloway edges Mason in Cage Warriors debut After seeing his UFC career fizzle due to consecutive losses, Ben Alloway (13-5) got back on track in his Cage Warriors debut with a decision victory over a game Jack Mason (26-13) in the co-main event.

Cage Warriors 63 was a night all about the submissions as eight of the 15 bouts on the New Year’s Eve card ended with one fighter tapping or left unconscious. Ivan Buchinger (25-4) capped off the event, which streamed on MMAjunkie from The Helix in Dublin, in suitable fashion and captured the Cage Warriors lightweight championship from Stevie Ray (14-5) after four rounds of action.
