The 24 fighters taking part on the UFC on Fox 8 fight card on Saturday stepped on the scale at Seattle’s KeyArena on Friday for the official weigh-ins. UFC on Fox 8 is headlined by a flyweight title fight between champion Demetrious Johnson and challenger John Moraga . Neither champion nor challenger had any issues weighing in. Each man tipped the scale at 124.5 pounds, half a pound under the 125-pound limit for a flyweight title fight. Co-main eventers Rory MacDonald and Jake Ellenberger have stolen much of the flyweights’ thunder leading up to the event, due in large part to Ellenberger’s verbal jabs at every turn. After weighing in, however, the trash talk is about done and it’s time to back it up in the Octagon.

The 22 fighters competing on the UFC 162: Silva vs. Weidman fight card step on the scales at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas on Friday to weigh-in. The main event features UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva putting his belt on the line against undefeated challenger Chris Weidman . Weidman stepped on the scale hitting the 185-pound limit for a middleweight championship fight dead on. Silva, setting his belt aside for the moment, tipped the scale at 184 pounds

One FC Lightweight Champion Shinya Aoki Set for a Drop to Featherweight

Shinya Aoki has been the most dominant lightweights in Asia for the better part of a decade, but the reigning ONE FC lightweight champion and former Dream, Shooto and WAMMA champion is set for a new challenge: campaigning at 145 pounds. Talk of a possible drop down in weight for Aoki has been intensifying ever since his title victory over Kotetsu Boku . He made the 155-pound limit so easily for that fight that both him and his team stated that he would be likely to compete at featherweight in the future. The final stage in the preparatory process took place last weekend with Aoki completing a successful test cut. He posted a photo of himself on Facebook stepping on the scales at 65.6 kg along with a message saying that it had been “no problem.” The most obvious fight for the Japanese legend would be against reigning ONE FC featherweight champion Koji Oishi , who won the belt by beating Honorio Banario in Manila last month. Aoki, however, also holds the lightweight strap, which could complicate any prospective featherweight match-up, as ONE FC matchmaker Matt Hume might be reluctant to allow one fighter to hold two belts concurrently. If he remains at 155 pounds, there are a number of potential contenders coming through the ONE FC ranks including Kamal Shalorus , Caros Fodor and Lowen Tynanes, while the top-ranked fighters in the featherweight division at present are Oishi, Banario, Eric Kelly, and Bae Young Kwon. The decision to move down in weight was made by Aoki and the training team at Evolve MMA in Singapore, which has a proven track record of helping its fighters make weight drops

Winning King of the Cage Belt is Latest Step Along Frankie Saenz’s Road to the Top

In winning the King of the Cage flyweight championship (135-pound limit) on May 25, former Strikeforce Challengers participant Frankie Saenz has begun taking the necessary steps to make an impact in the 135-pound division. “I thought it was a pretty good match-up for myself,” said Saenz of his title fight against Marvin Garcia. “He and I are both wrestlers, so we just kind of planned to out-wrestle him. We knew he had a few overhand punches and stuff like that, so I just tried to be patient, calm and kept my hands up. “The game plan was just wear him down that first round by make him keep grappling and fighting for position, and then in the second round things would start opening for me.” Saenz feels the win over Garcia is a good indicator of where he’s at in his career. “It was definitely a good win,” said Saenz. “(Garcia’s) got a good record and any win like that is a good win
