SEATTLE – For Dana White, dealing with the lighter weight classes, in particular the flyweight division, seems like a damned-if-you-do, damned-if-you-don’t proposition. If the UFC puts the 125-pound weight class on display in the main event, as it did Saturday night with UFC on FOX 8, the promotion’s president often is met with questions of why he thinks the flyweights can attract enough attention to carry a card. But do something like make them the co-main event on a pay-per-view just below a Jon Jones title fight, as was the case at UFC 152 this past September, and he hears about that, too. Why doesn’t he think the flyweights are good enough to headline a big card?

Undefeated heavyweight Daniel Cormier has talked about making the move to the 205-pound division well before he even arrived in the UFC . Following his final Strikeforce bout on Jan. 12, the former Olympian said he planned to drop to the light heavyweight division by the end of 2013 and kick Jon Jones ’ (expletive). During a recent episode of UFC Tonight , it was revealed that Cormier’s UFC 166 match-up with Roy Nelson would be his final fight in the heavyweight division and he plans to ask for an immediate title shot in the 205-pound weight class if he’s victorious on Oct.

Dennis Siver: “I Think I Have A Lot More Power in This Weight Class” (UFC 162 Video)

Since dropping from the lightweight division to the 145-pound weight class, Dennis Siver has won back-to-back fights. TUF 17 Winner Kelvin Gastelum Draws Paulo Thiago in his Welterweight Debut

The Ultimate Fighter 17 winner Kelvin Gastelum is dropping down to the welterweight division to face Paulo Thiago on the second UFC on Fox Sports 1 card. UFC on FS1 2 is slated Aug. 28 in Indianapolis. Gastelum confirmed the news via Twitter on Tuesday. Gastelum (6-0) defeated heavily favored Team Sonnen teammate Uriah Hall at The Ultimate Fighter 17 Finale on April 13 in his official UFC debt, becoming the youngest winner in the reality show’s history. In the days following the win, the 21-year-old announced that he would be dropping from the middleweight division to the 170-pound weight class. His first test at welterweight will be Paulo Thiago.
