Bellator Season 9 Moves to Friday Nights Following Sept. 7 Fight Master Live Finale

Following a successful debut season on Spike TV on Thursday nights, Bellator MMA is moving to Friday nights for Season 9 this fall. Spike TV president Kevin Kay revealed the move this week to SI.com . Bellator will kick off Season 9 with a special Saturday live event on Sept. 7, which will also serve as the season finale to its own reality series, Fight Master , but on Sept. 13 will shift to Friday nights for the season. Bellator had its first run on Spike TV from January to April of this year with Season 8, which averaged 862,000 viewers per episode, which includes the industry standard live event plus three days of DVR viewership. The live events alone average slightly less than 793,000 viewers per episode, which was nearly five times better than what Bellator was drawing on its previous network, MTV2. The Thursday night slot for its initial run on Spike included a strong lead-in audience courtesy of Impact Wrestling

Bellator Season 9 debuts Sept. 7 before move to Friday nights

Bellator MMA once again will have a new weekly home, this time on Fridays. Bellator officials on Tuesday confirmed to MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) that the promotion will debut on a Saturday before moving to Friday nights the following week. Loretta Hunt of SI.com first reported the news after speaking to Spike TV President Kevin Kay. Bellator’s Season 9 debut is set for Saturday Sept. 7 on Spike TV, a card that serves as the promotion’s live season finale for the “Fight Master” reality show/competition. That show debuts June 19 on Spike TV. But after that event, likely Bellator 99, the promotion will move to Friday nights from 9-11 p.m.

‘Rampage’ Jackson to appear on TNA, four-part reality show and movies in works

Quinton Jackson (32-11 MMA, 0-0 BFC) should be plenty busy in the next few years if all goes as planned in his new deal with Bellator, Spike TV and TNA Wrestling. Along with executives from the fight and media companies, the ex-UFC champ gave a press conference Wednesday in Los Angeles to discuss details of the next chapter in his career. Already, “Rampage” said he’s a happier man. “In the past, the issues I had with promoters, I just sometimes felt like I wasn’t appreciated,” Jackson told Spike President Kevin Kay and Bellator chief Bjorn Rebney, who sat beside him at a conference table. “You guys get it.” “It makes me think that all the hard work and the things I did to my body in the past are all paying off now,” he added. “I lost a lot of love for MMA … back when I was in the UFC
