Lion Fight Promotions on Monday announced that French Muay Thai champion Jennifer Colomb is the new opponent to face Cris “Cyborg” Justino in a Lion Fight 11 women’s match on Friday, Sept. 20, at the Fremont Street Experience in downtown Las Vegas. Cyborg was originally slated to face Martina Jindrova, who had to withdraw from the bout due to injury, as announced on AXS TV’s Inside MMA recently

The last fight on Ben Askren ‘s Bellator MMA deal is in the books, and the promotion’s welterweight champion delivered yet again with perhaps his most dominant performance to date. Now CEO Bjorn Rebney finds himself in a position he’s been in before – hoping to keep one of his champions rather than lose him to the competition. Rebney on Wednesday confirmed to MMAjunkie.com Radio (www.mmajunkie.com/radio) that Askren’s win over Andrey Koreshkov at this past week’s Bellator 97 card was the last fight on his current deal. Rebney also said he’s unsure of what steps the promotion will take in negotiations with Askren (12-0 MMA, 9-0 BMMA), who has a standard exclusive negotiating period with Bellator built into his deal before he can seek offers from other promotions. In the past, as was the case with former lightweight champ Eddie Alvarez , Rebney waived the exclusive period and let Alvarez test the market early. He got an offer from the UFC, Bellator attempted to match it and now the entire case is tied up in the legal system with Alvarez’s side saying Bellator’s counter-offer was not a true match

There is only one 170-pound mixed martial artist outside of the UFC that is turning heads. His name is Ben Askren , undefeated Bellator welterweight champion. And he is preparing to put his belt on the line for the fourth time when he steps in the cage with Andrey Koreshkov on Wednesday. Askren is currently undefeated at 11-0, and in many pundits’ eyes, he is the next prospect to step out from the shadow of divisional kingpin and UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre. With wins over MMA veterans like Jay Hieron, Nick Thompson, Douglas Lima and Lyman Good (Hieron, Good and Thompson being former champions of other mid-major promotions), Askren has proven that – despite only being in the sport for four years – this 29-year-old isn’t intimidated by any perceived lack of experience. Invicta FC Will Soon Join Reality Television with Its Own Reality Series

It was a reality show in 2005 that catapulted the Ultimate Fighting Championship and mixed martial arts into the mainstream with the debut of The Ultimate Fighter on Spike TV. Bellator MMA launched its reality series, Fight Master: Bellator MMA , in June. Invicta FC will join the promotions with reality shows in the near future. Invicta FC president Shannon Knapp made the announcement following Invicta FC 6 on July 13. “We’re doing a reality series that will be completely different than the format of what the UFC is doing and what Bellator is doing,” said Knapp. “It will give an opportunity for these athletes to be more known and elevated in the eyes of the public and all that kind of thing.” Invicta FC, an all-female fight promotion, held its first event in April 2012 and has seen steady growth in its first year of existence. “I think it’s important for the athletes to know that we’re striving and moving forward every day, and I think that gives them even more to fight for and be excited about,” she said. “I mean, come on. Look at these girls. Can you imagine watching a show with all these personalities that we have here in Invicta? This show is going to be amazing.” The organization is currently working on a pilot for the reality series. Jorge Masvidal not worried about ‘watered-down Royce Gracie’ at UFC on FOX 8

Jorge Masvidal knows that no one will take him seriously as a UFC lightweight contender until he registers some stoppage wins. Luckily for the Strikeforce vet, he believes he’s fighting a “watered-down Royce Gracie ” next week at UFC on FOX 8. Masvidal, a 28-year-old American Top Team product who’s fought for a variety of major promotions, made his long-awaited UFC debut in April and scored a decision victory over a tough Tim Means .
