WSOF 4′s Brandon Hempleman believes Marlon Moraes will underestimate his standup

While Marlon Moraes is a significant favorite over Brandon Hempleman at this Saturday’s World Series of Fighting 4 event, there’s one thing neither Moraes nor oddsmakers can prepare for: “Hot Rod’s” element of surprise. Entering his promotional debut against one of the most highly touted bantamweight prospects in the game today, few are giving Hempleman a chance of getting his hand raised against an opponent riding an impressive four-fight win streak.   As for Hempleman (9-1), he views his under-the-radar profile as an advantage and believes his lack of notoriety will be advantageous against Moraes (10-4-1) come fight night, particularly in the striking department.   “I think he’s going to underestimate (my striking), so he better be ready for it,” Hempleman told MMAjunkie.com Radio (www.mmajunkie.com/radio). “There’s not a lot of video on me.”  Having fought his first 10 professional bouts in regional promotions throughout the United States and Europe, Hempleman has quietly worked his way up to the opportunity he will get Saturday at Citizens Bank Arena in Ontario, Calif.   Moraes is a fighter who has received a lot of attention since defeating Miguel Torres and Tyson Nam in his first two WSOF appearances, and Hempleman has been keeping a close eye on his opponent’s body of work.   “I think (his standup) is good,” Hempleman said.

Demetrious Johnson on His UFC on Fox 8 Performance and Superfight Prospects (Video)

Demetrious Johnson continued to put his stamp on the UFC flyweight division with a dominant victory over John Moraga at UFC on Fox 8 on Saturday night in Seattle. Johnson controlled the fight, nearly from bell to bell, save for a couple explosions from Moraga, and finished with an armbar late in the fifth and final round. It was only Johnson’s second title defense, but talk already has shifted to whether or not he should step outside his division and take on a superfight, which seems to be all the rage lately. Johnson, and company president Dana White, certainly had a lot to say about Johnson’s performance on Saturday night and the prospects of fighting up against bantamweight champions following his victory on Saturday night.

Liz Carmouche notched her first victory in the Octagon at UFC on Fox 8 on Saturday night in Seattle, finishing Jessica Andrade by way of TKO stoppage in the second round. Even though she lost her first UFC bout to current women’s champion Ronda Rousey , Carmouche says she’s always felt at home in the Octagon. Of course, she’s gunning for the belt and wants another shot at Rousey, but will take whatever the UFC throws her way. UFC’s Glover Teixeira anticipates September return, expects assignment soon

Brazilian slugger Glover Teixeira (21-2 MMA, 4-0 UFC) expects to resume his assault of the UFC’s light heavyweight division later this year, and the fast-rising contender said he could return to action as soon as September. “I want to know what’s next for me, too,” Teixeira told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com). “I think I might be fighting in September. They asked me if I’d be ready. We’ll probably hear soon who I’m going to fight, and I’m sure it will be great.” The 33-year-old Teixeira is one of the UFC’s brightest prospects at 205 pounds, boasting an incredible 19-fight win streak that includes UFC victories over James Te Huna , Quinton “Rampage” Jackson, Fabio Maldonado and Kyle Kingsbury . Teixeira currently sits at No. 7 in the latest USA TODAY Sports/MMAjunkie.com light heavyweight rankings , but he lacks a signature win to bring him to the very top of division’s ladder. But Teixeira doesn’t blame the UFC for potentially slow-playing his rise to the top.

Cage Warriors signs four U.K.-based fighters to exclusive deals

Cage Warriors has expanded its roster with the signing of four prospects in three different divisions. U.K. fighters Brian Moore (6-1), Jordan Desborough (5-2), Dave Graham (3-1) and Mario Saeed (4-1) all have signed exclusive five-fight deals with the promotion. Cage Warriors officials recently announced the deals for the four fighters, though they have not yet been added to any upcoming fight cards.

Jared Downing Ready to Take Lance Palmer’s Spot as RFA’s Top Featherweight Prospect

Heading into Friday’s RFA 8 show at 9-1, featherweight Jared “Demon Eyes” Downing looks to be one of several prospects on the card that could possibly take a step to the next level with a solid performance on the show. Even though he’s highly regarded, Downing continues to fight like he has something to prove, even if it means facing larger opposition like he’s done recently. “I feel happy with my performances (in 2012),” said Downing.” I got to go with a lot of heavier guys and I feel that even at the heavier weight, I felt explosive and had strength like I had at 145 pounds. “The bigger guys kind of got to me a little more than I had hoped for, but I definitely felt comfortable in those fights and doing what I wanted at that moment.” In his more natural division at featherweight, Downing told MMAWeekly.com that he is more dangerous. “I feel good at 145 and I have a speed advantage and a way bigger advantage in my strength and explosiveness,” he said
