After it was reported Thursday that a potential plan was in place if Julianna Pena can’t fight soon, a new hat has been thrown into the proverbial ring. Manager Ali Abdelaziz told MMA Junkie that an interim women’s bantamweight title may be on the table soon if Peña (11-5 MMA, 8-3 UFC) can’t fight. Peña won back the 135-pound belt with a split decision win over Raquel Pennington (16-9 MMA, 13-6 UFC) at UFC 307 in October. The decision was a highly debatable one

Raquel Pennington says everyone but the judges thought she beat Julianna Pena . Pennington (16-10 MMA, 13-6 UFC) lost her bantamweight title to Peña (13-5 MMA, 8-3 UFC) by split decision in the co-main event of UFC 307 in Salt Lake City. All but two media members scored the fight in favor of Pennington (h/t MMA Decisions ). Pennington says even the UFC was prepping to have her announced as the winner. “That night was just a really weird night,” Pennington told MMA Junkie Radio

The current landscape of the UFC women’s bantamweight division could lure former two-time titleholder and two-division champion Amanda Nunes out of retirement. Shortly after Julianna Pena won back the women’s 135-pound championship at UFC 307 by narrowly defeating Raquel Pennington , Nunes posted a video to social media teasing a return. In the video, she urged UFC CEO Dana White to give her a call.

Pennington believes she deserved to retain her title, but in the end she lost a split decision in the co-main event of UFC 307 this past Saturday in Salt Lake City. Pennington (16-10 MMA, 13-6 UFC) won one 48-47 scorecard but lost 48-47 to Peña (13-5 MMA, 8-3 UFC) on the two others. Many fans agreed with Pennington and voiced their outrage on social media that the result went the other way. In this installment, we take a closer look at the UFC 307 co-main bout in Salt Lake City, a women’s bantamweight title fight between Raquel Pennington and Julianna Peña. The fight resulted in a split decision , crowning Peña champion for the second time in her UFC career. The fight started with a close Round 1, but the following four rounds were decisive. After 25 minutes of action, the official judges submitted dueling 48-47 scores, with two seeing Peña as the winner. The opening frame created the dissension, while Rounds 2-5 were scored the same on all cards.

Women’s bantamweight champion Raquel Pennington put her title on the line for the first time on Saturday in the UFC 307 co-main event. ”Rocky” faced former titleholder Julianna Peña in a bit of a rivalry fight. The two appeared on The Ultimate Fighter 18 in 2013. Pennington was defeated in the semifinals while Peña went on the win the season. During the UFC 307 Pre-fight Press Conference, Pennington said she’s waited eleven years for this fight to happen.
