The Ultimate Fighter 18 TV Ratings Up 14-Percent Week-Over-Week

The second episode of The Ultimate Fighter: Team Rousey vs. Team Tate bucked a historical trend, becoming only the fifth season in the life of the reality series to improve its audience from episode one to episode two. Episode two, which featured Team Tate’s Julianna Pena upsetting Team Rousey’s Shayna Baszler , scored an audience of 870,000 viewers, improving upon the premier episode’s 762,000 viewers, according to the Nielsen Ratings. That represents a 14-percent increase in viewership week-over-week.

Fight Master: Bellator MMA TV Ratings Climb to Second Best Mark of Season

Bellator ’s reality series, Fight Master: Bellator MMA, has had a tough time getting off the ground, launching over the summer viewing season, which is typically the off-season for America’s TV viewing audiences. Wednesday night’s Episode 6, however, saw TV ratings increase to the second highest point of the new series’ season thus far. The sixth episode of Fight Master drew an average audience of 629,000 viewers, second only to episode three, which garnered an audience of 676,000 viewers. Fight Master has bounced up and down in the ratings, but Wednesday night was a marked increase over a recent two-week slump that saw the show’s ratings drop to 505,000 and 441,000 for Episodes 4 and 5. Episode 6 benefited from a strong live fight card, Bellator 97, which drew and audience of 679,000

Roy Nelson Inks New 9-Fight Deal with UFC

UFC heavyweight Roy Nelson has inked a new nine-fight deal with the Ultimate Fighting Championship and plans to retire with the organization. Nelson (19-8) won the tenth season of The Ultimate Fighter reality series tournament to earn a six-figure UFC contract. In his ten fights in the organization, Nelson has logged four Knockout of the Night performances and has won one Fight of the Night award. Nelson fulfilled his previous 10-fight contract at UFC 161: Evans vs. Henderson on June 15, losing a unanimous decision to Stipe Miocic . It was clear that Nelson had a new contract when the UFC announced on Monday that he’ll face undefeated Daniel Cormier on Oct. 19 at UFC 166 , but the details of the new deal were unknown.

Heavyweights Roy Nelson and Daniel Cormier have been rumored to be a fight in the making. Both have wanted the bout to happen and now it will on Oct. 19 at UFC 166 in Houston. The Houston Chronicle first reported the matchup and UFC officials confirmed the bout as the UFC 166 co-main event on Monday. Cormier (12-0) is a former Olympic wrestler who transitioned into mixed martial arts. He made his professional MMA debut in 2009 and has steadily climbed the heavyweight ranks, winning the 2012 Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix. He made his long awaited UFC debut on April 20, defeating former titleholder Frank Mir by unanimous decision. Nelson (19-8) has been a fan favorite since making his way into the UFC by winning the tenth season of The Ultimate Fighter reality series. Known for his ability to absorb an incredible amount of damage and for his one-punch knockout power, Nelson knocked out Brendan Schaub and Stefan Struve in his first two fights in the UFC. He’s lost to top contenders Junior dos Santos, Fabricio Werdum and Frank Mir, but has faced the top competition inside the organization.

Invicta FC Will Soon Join Reality Television with Its Own Reality Series

It was a reality show in 2005 that catapulted the Ultimate Fighting Championship and mixed martial arts into the mainstream with the debut of The Ultimate Fighter on Spike TV. Bellator MMA launched its reality series, Fight Master: Bellator MMA , in June. Invicta FC will join the promotions with reality shows in the near future. Invicta FC president Shannon Knapp made the announcement following Invicta FC 6 on July 13. “We’re doing a reality series that will be completely different than the format of what the UFC is doing and what Bellator is doing,” said Knapp. “It will give an opportunity for these athletes to be more known and elevated in the eyes of the public and all that kind of thing.” Invicta FC, an all-female fight promotion, held its first event in April 2012 and has seen steady growth in its first year of existence. “I think it’s important for the athletes to know that we’re striving and moving forward every day, and I think that gives them even more to fight for and be excited about,” she said. “I mean, come on. Look at these girls. Can you imagine watching a show with all these personalities that we have here in Invicta? This show is going to be amazing.” The organization is currently working on a pilot for the reality series. The premier drew 432,000 viewers while the second episode improved to 545,000 viewers. After a week off, the reality series returned with its third episode on Wednesday with 676,000 viewers. Fight Master: Bellator MMA is similar to its Spike TV predecessor, The Ultimate Fighter , but has a slightly different twist to how the teams are divvied up. Much like the singing competition The Voice the participants select their teams instead of being chosen by the coaches. The show started with 32 welterweight athletes that pair off, trying to fight their way onto the show. The winners of the fights gain the opportunity to select from one of four coaches
