Matt Brown Hopes His UFC Fight Night 26 Finish of Mike Pyle Earns Him a Marquee Match-up Next

Matt Brown (18-11) is making a strong case for himself being one of the most dangerous welterweights on the planet. The 32-year-old Cincinnati native has strung together a six-fight winning streak in the talent-rich 170-pound division, finishing his last four opponents. Riding high off his UFC Fight Night 26 first-round knockout of Mike Pyle , Brown hopes his recent performances earn him a marquee match-up in his next outing. “Hopefully it put me somewhere, in a good position to get some big fights,” said Brown during the UFC Fight Night 26 post-fight press conference. “In this sport you get what you earn, not what you deserve, so hopefully I earned something good here.” UFC president Dana White was impressed by Brown’s quick finish of Pyle, and believes Brown will face a top ten opponent next. “He made quick work out of a guy whom a lot of people respect, a tough, durable guy,” said White. “I think the fight put him in a real good position to possibly get a spot in that top ten and fight one of the guys in the top ten.” Brown’s win over Pyle accompanied by his winning streak will likely move him into the top ten rankings. And while a top ten-ranked opponent likely awaits him in his next outing, Brown has his eye on the man sitting at the top of the division, Georges St-Pierre .

Jessica Penne Wants a Rematch with Michelle Waterson, Invicta FC Has Other Plans

Former Invicta FC atomweight champion Jessica Penne wants a rematch with Michelle Waterson , but Invicta FC has other plans. “I think I’m ready for a rematch,” said Penne following her Invicta FC 6 submission win over Nicdali Rivera-Calanoc on Saturday. Penne became the first ever champion in Invicta FC history when she defeated Naho Sugiyama at Invicta FC 3 in October 2012. Waterson defeated Penne in her first title defense by arm bar to capture the Invicta FC atomweight title at Invicta FC 5 on April 5. Invicta FC president Shannon Knapp believes Penne is deserving of another title shot, but will not make the rematch out of respect for Waterson as a champion. “I always look at it this way. I feel like when someone becomes champion that respectfully you should give them a fight before they face that opponent again. That’s just my thoughts on it,” said Knapp during the Invicta FC 6 post-fight press conference.

Anderson Silva Reportedly Wants Rematch; Chris Weidman Expected It All Along

Everything leading up to UFC 162 and everything since has pointed to a rematch between Anderson Silva and Chris Weidman . UFC president Dana White, leading up to Saturday night’s fight in Las Vegas, promised that if Silva lost, which he did, that an immediate rematch would be in the offing. Weidman said the same thing and reiterated that sentiment immediately following the fight. “He’s unbeatable, the fricking Bruce Lee of mixed martial arts,” the new champion said after the fight. “I just have to say all respect to Anderson Silva. Former UFC light heavyweight champion Rashad Evans is very familiar with his UFC 161 opponent Dan Henderson . He’s been a fan of him for years. “It is a little strange match-up because of the amount of respect I have for him and how long I’ve been following his career. But he’s at the top of the game and throughout the years he’s proven he’s one of the best guys in the division still,” Evans said in a recent interview on Fuel TV . “He has longevity, and he doesn’t seem to be slowing down. So I’m going to have to slow him down on Saturday.” In recent fights, Evans has been hesitant in his offense, something that Henderson has pointed out leading up to the fight. But Evans has focused on changing that and believes there will be no hesitation when he faces Henderson. “One of the thing I’ve been working on more than anything the last few months since my last fight was just becoming more confident and implementing what I’m good at and just doing what I do. I seem to have a tendency to overthink a lot of what I’m doing when I’m out there competing. And when you’re out there competing, thinking is the last thing you really should be doing,” he explained. “You should just be reacting. That’s what training is for, so you can train your body to not even think but just react. So I’m starting to trust myself a little bit more, starting to believe in myself a little bit more, my striking and tools that I’ve got. And I think I’m coming with a full round game this time,” added Evans. Henderson is known for his punching power, particularly in his right hand that has been dubbed the “H-bomb.” Evans is aware of Henderson’s knockout prowess, but he isn’t afraid of it. “I watch it and I’ve watched it over and over again. But for the most part, I can’t be afraid to get hit because I think at one point in the fight that I am going to get hit by it. And I think it’s one of those things where you’re constantly paranoid that you’re going to get hit by it, you’re probably going to get hit by it harder than you think you are,” he said. “I’m just going to go and fight. I’ve fought a lot of guys with big right hands. I’ve fought Rampage ( Quinton Jackson ). He has a big right hand. I’ve fought Chuck Liddell . He has a big right hand. So I know I can go in there and get caught by a big right hand and keep on fighting, so I’m not going to make his big right hand a big deal,” said the 33-year-old.
