To borrow from the Beatles, Edward James Olmos hopes his latest project can get by with a little help from his friends. And right now, those friends include the likes of Anderson Silva , Frank Shamrock – and the potential for thousands of others. The Oscar-nominated actor is part of a new film project called “Monday Nights at Seven” that stars actor/director Marty Sader in a love and life story against the backdrop of the MMA world. But what is unique about the movie in its infancy is that the team behind it is seeking to have it funded through Kickstarter, a crowd-funding site that lets supporters contribute financially in exchange for rewards once the financing goal is hit. Want to have a speaking role in “Monday Nights at Seven”? You can with a contribution of $10,000 toward the film’s $500,000 goal.

Anderson Silva could bank $800,000 at UFC 162; Weidman stands to make $48,000

As UFC President Dana White recently made clear, and disclosed payouts for Saturday’s UFC 162 show, it’s the guys who win the fights, sell the tickets and get people talking that reap the biggest rewards. Top-five pay-per-view draw and middleweight champ Anderson Silva (33-4 MMA, 16-0 UFC), who recently inked a new 10-fight contract with the UFC, will bank a guaranteed $600,000 for fighting challenger Chris Weidman (9-0 MMA, 5-0 UFC), according to figures from the Nevada State Athletic Commission. Silva, 38, stands to earn an additional $200,000 by defending his title an 11th time, which would add to his UFC record. The 29-year-old Weidman, meanwhile, is guaranteed $24,000 and an additional $24,000 if he makes history by taking the belt. LAS VEGAS – The UFC is contemplating the elimination of fight-night and discretionary bonuses to fighters, the promotion’s president told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com). “You don’t like the structure? All right, we’ll pay the lower-level guys more money – no more f–king bonuses,” Dana White said. “You guys come in, you negotiate your contracts, and we do away with all bonuses. That’s what I’m thinking about doing.” White today said he and UFC co-owner and CEO Lorenzo Fertitta came up with the idea to redistribute wealth after several former and current UFC fighters publicly criticized the way the promotion pays its fighters. And if they follow through with it, they could find out very quickly if those currently under contract believe the current system is as bad as its often made to be. White said that for every UFC event that “kicks ass,” the promotion “makes sure that everybody gets a piece of the extra.” Now, the promotion could boost fighters’ base salaries across the board and take away rewards for those that perform. “The bonuses are something we’ve been doing out of the kindness of our f–king heart,” White said. “It was something we liked to do. Apparently, people don’t like it.
