Filed under: AXS TV Fights , News , Videos Thiago Moises (7-1) is the new RFA lightweight champion, and he claimed his belt in style, pulling off one of smoothest armbar transitions you’ll ever see to tap out David Castillo (19-8). Friday’s RFA 35 event took place at UCCU Center in Orem, Utah, and aired on AXS TV. Check out highlights of some of the top performers on the card. In addition to Moises’ big win, the massive Curtis Blaydes (5-0) used double hammerfists to score a TKO win over Luis Cortez (3-2), and Dervin Lopez (8-3) scored a thrilling first-round finish of Joe Rodriguez (7-4).

David Putvin RFA lightweight David Putvin might not have had much time to prepare for his next opponent, but if he’s living up to his nickname, that’s not a big problem. “I truly do feel I’m at the best of my game right now, and who I’m fighting, who’s on the opposite side of the cage right now, is not really my main concern right now,” he told MMAjunkie Radio. Putvin (7-1), who meets Thiago Alves Cavalcante Rodrigues (9-3) in a short notice co-headliner tonight at RFA 35, was 5 when he gave himself the moniker announced over the loudspeakers before his colorful walkouts: Playtime. Putvin, whose bout takes place at UCCU Center in Orem, Utah, and airs on AXS TV, didn’t mean it as an indication he takes MMA less seriously than others. Instead, he said it reflects the type of open-minded attitude in the cage that opens up opportunities for a submission artist. As a Brazilian jiu-jitsu artist of 18 years, grappling is the thing Putvin most resonates with, even if he estimates most of his submissions come about as the result of the damage he does with his striking

Thiago Moises vs. Javon Wright, RFA 28 When Zach Juusola pulled out of Friday’s RFA 35 main event , it opened the door for Thiago Moises , and now the lightweight plans to capture the promotion’s title and use it as a springboard to the UFC. Moises (6-1) now faces David Castillo (19-7) for the vacant lightweight title at the event, which takes place at UCCU Center in Orem, Utah. The main card airs on AXS TV. “It was a total surprise,” Moises told MMAjunkie the day after finding out about the opportunity.
