However, one of the night’s top performances may have come from veteran official Dean. In a bantamweight bout, Albert Morales (6-0) picked up a quick 20-second win over Mario Israel (10-2) – and needed to be pried off his opponent.

For RFA lightweight champ Thiago Moises, warming up meant a rough night to win belt

It’s not that lightweight champ Thiago Moises wasn’t in good shape – he’d trained for his RFA 35 title fight with the famed American Top Team, who’d taken him in after his work with the 011 MMA Team in Sao Paulo. But all the training in the world doesn’t prepare you for fighting at altitude, which is what he did when he fought David Castillo. “As I was warming up, I did feel the altitude,” Moises (7-1), who defends the belt Friday at RFA 38 against short-notice replacement Jamall Emmers (9-2), told MMAjunkie. “I hadn’t quite warmed up by the first round. I wasn’t in the fight yet. I actually warmed up during the fight.” Warming up, in this case, meant almost getting finished in the first round.

Mario Israel hopes to get discovered when ‘Dana White: Lookin’ for a Fight’ comes to RFA 38

RFA bantamweight Mario Israel has already had one brush with the UFC, auditioning for the fourth Brazilian season of the long-running “The Ultimate Fighter.” But there’s nothing quite like fighting in front of the boss, and that’s why his fight tonight at RFA 38 could be his best opportunity to sign with the industry leader. Israel (10-1) faces the undefeated Albert Morales (5-0) on AXS TV at The Hangar at the OC Fair & Event Center in Costa Mesa, Calif. More importantly, he expects to fight in front of UFC President Dana White, who he said will be there filming the UFC Fight Pass series “Dana White: Lookin’ for a Fight.” “I’m sure this is the opportunity of a lifetime,” Israel told MMAjunkie.

Thiago Moises RFA returns to California in June with a lightweight title fight on top of the card. Officials recently announced lightweight titleholder Thiago Moises (7-1) will meet challenger and former UFC fighter E.J. Chavez (10-2) in the RFA 38 headliner. RFA 38 takes place June 3 at The Hangar at the OC Fair & Event Center in Costa Mesa, Calif., and the main card airs on AXS TV. “I’m excited about bringing another world title fight to Orange County,” RFA President Ed Soares stated. “Thiago Moises won the RFA lightweight title in February with a helicopter armbar that should win ‘Submission of the Year.’ He will defend his title for the first time at RFA 38 against E.J.
