TORONTO – The Michael Page vs. Richard Kiely fight last month at Bellator Europe 4 could have been handled better by referee Dan Miragliotta, according to veteran official turned Bellator analyst John McCarthy. Speaking at a DAZN/Bellator event this week, McCarthy explained how MMA has the perfect counter-balance to trash talk. “The best part about fighting, you can say anything you want about me,” McCarthy said, before later adding: “Usually, it settles itself out because I get to punch you in the mouth. That’s a great equalizer.” McCarthy explained that things can get out of control if the referee allows himself to become emotionally involved in the matchup when insults are flying, as he discussed the situation that occurred during Page’s TKO win over Kiely.

Gallagher’s 35-second victory didn’t tell us much we didn’t already know about him, but the reaction of the fans to “The Strabanimal” certainly did. Detractors can call him a Conor McGregor clone as much as they like

Although they engaged in a three-way war of words last Friday at Bellator Europe 4, fighters Michael Page and Richard Kiely , and referee Dan Miragliotta won’t be punished for their behavior. Michael Mazzulli, who regulates Bellator’s European events, told MMA Junkie on Monday that none of the three parties involved will be fined or suspended for their actions in the cage at 3Arena in Dublin. All three men received a warning and will need to meet adamant expectations going forward. According to Mazzulli, the two fighters were warned by Miragliotta before the fight that disrespectful behavior would not be tolerated. The warning fell on deaf ears as Kiely flipped Page the bird just minutes into their contest. At that point, Miragliotta issued a second warning not solely to Kiely, but Page as well, Mazzulli said.

DUBLIN — Michael Page shook off his first career loss in grand style on Friday. “MVP” knocked out an overmatched Richard Kiely in the opening round of their welterweight fight at Bellator Europe 4 with a picture-perfect flying knee in a return to his highlight-reel form and to the win column. However, it did not come without controversy. “Venom” was controversially deducted a point for showboating by referee Dan Miragliotta before the finishing flurry. In his post-fight interview backstage at 3Arena, Page (15-1 MMA, 11-1 BMMA) made an explosive claim, saying the referee called the fighter a “piece of (expletive)” after the bout. Page further said that he never wants the New Jersey-based official to be the third man in the cage for one of his fights ever again after the bout with Kiely (3-2 MMA, 1-1 BMMA)

DUBLIN – In a grudge match between talented strikers, it was Michael Page (15-1 MMA, 11-1 BMMA) who proved superior, knocking out Richard Kiely (3-2 MMA, 1-1 BMMA) in the opening round. The welterweight bout was part of the Bellator Europe 4 card at 3Arena in Dublin. The card streamed on the Bellator app. Page came out with his hands low, pointing at his chin, and Kiely responded by flipping him the middle finger, bringing an early warning for sportsmanship from referee Dan Miragliotta.
