Verhoeven, the current GLORY Kickboxing heavyweight champion, is a good friend of Aspinall, with the pair frequently using each other in training camps for their respective bouts. They were in the gym recently, with Aspinall (15-3 MMA, 8-1 UFC) getting some rounds for his potential backup role at UFC 309 this month when Jones (28-1 MMA, 22-1 UFC) took on Stipe Miocic, as well as assisting Verhoeven ahead of his title defense with Levi Rigters at GLORY COLLISION 7 on Dec.

Alistair Overeem has his next combat sports assignment, and it comes in the form of one of kickboxing’s most notable names. A former UFC heavyweight contender, Overeem is set to compete for the first time since his promotional release and subsequent signing with GLORY Kickboxing. At “GLORY: Collision 3,” Overeem will challenge champion Rico Verhoeven for the heavyweight title. The event will take place Oct. 23 at GelreDome, a 34,000-seat stadium in Arnhem, Netherlands. Overeem, 41, announced the news Monday on “ The MMA Hour .” Overeem departed the UFC days after a February TKO loss to Alexander Volkov.

Filed under: Blue Corner , Featured Videos , News It wasn’t exactly a closely contested affair, but for what it’s worth, Antonio Silva managed to take one of the best kickboxers in the world to the second round in his debut. “Bigfoot” Silva (19-12-1 MMA) met GLORY heavyweight champion Rico Verhoeven (52-10-1 kickboxing) in a non-title headliner at today’s GLORY 46 SuperFight Series event in Guangzhou, China. The bout, scheduled for three three-minute rounds, was called to a stop early in the second after a flurry by Verhoeven had “Bigfoot” cornered against the ropes. Verhoeven relied heavily on low kicks in the first round – a strategy that seemed to pay dividends as Silva twice struggled to keep his footing. A low blow by the GLORY champ, however, caused the fight to be paused for a bit. The beginning of the end would come in Round 2 – courtesy of a swift head kick that sent “Bigfoot” to the mat.
