UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo emerged from Saturday’s UFC 163 headlining bout with his belt, but he was far from unscathed. Aldo defeated Chan Sung Jung by TKO stoppage in the fourth round at HSBC Arena in Rio de Janeiro, but he fractured his foot in the process. The fractured foot put Aldo on the sidelines with a 90-day medical suspension, but that wasn’t the only reason the champ needed medical attention following the fight. According to a report by UOL , Aldo went to a hospital in Copacabana, Rio de Janeiro, on Tuesday due to a kidney problem. Dr. Marcio Tannure, who heads the Medical Committee of the Brazilian Athletic Commission, told MMAFighting.com that Aldo was diagnosed with kidney stones.
Phil Davis knows Saturday's UFC 163 win over fellow light-heavyweight contender Lyoto Machida was a controversial one – even if the bout hadn't taken place in his opponent's home country, where Brazilians occasionally are gifted decisions. So when it comes to the type of close unanimous-decision victory he picked up at Rio de Janeiro's HSBC Arena, Davis said he understands that it may be unpopular with many fans. "Fighting is an emotional thing," he said after the pay-per-view co-headliner. "If I had lost this fight, I would be like, 'I didn't lose that fight, and they know it.' That's how it is. Aldo (23-1 MMA, 5-0 UFC), the UFC's featherweight champion, defended his title with a fourth-round TKO of Chan Sung Jung (13-4 MMA, 3-1 UFC) in the main event of UFC 163, which took place at HSBC Arena in Rio de Janiero. Aldo won the fight not long after Jung, "The Korean Zombie," appeared to separate his right shoulder throwing a combination. When Aldo saw the shoulder injury, he took advantage and got a fairly quick TKO in the fourth round. But after the fight, Aldo said he was injured, too. The Brazilian fighter believes he may have broken his foot against Jung. "He knew I'd be giving him low kicks, and I think the first combination I kicked straight at his knee," Aldo told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) at the event's post-fight news conference.
