Fabricio Werdum Wants to Wait For Cain Velasquez vs. Junior dos Santos Winner

UFC heavyweight contender Fabricio Werdum wants to wait for the winner of champion Cain Velasquez and former titleholder Junior dos Santos . UFC Tonight recently reported the 36-year-old’s desire to wait for a title shot. Werdum (17-5-1) has won his three fights in the UFC since returning to the organization in February 2012, defeating Roy Nelson , Mike Russow and former champion Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira . The Brazilian also has notable wins over Fedor Emelianenko, Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva and Alistair Overeem . Werdum last competed on June 8, and expects to be back in action in February or March, but has no problems waiting a bit longer for a title shot. Velasquez and dos Santos fight for a third time at UFC 166 on Oct. 19 at the Toyota Center in Houston. They split their two previous meetings

Unbeaten Chinese Featherweight Guan Wang Headlines RUFF 10 on August 24

Guan Wang will be looking to extend the 11-0-1 record that marks him as one of the best pound-for-pound fighters in China, when he takes on Brazilian Sandro Da Silva (3-2). Their rematch will headline RUFF 10 on Aug. 24 in Shanghai. The event, which is set for the Hongkou Indoor Stadium, also sees the return of Zhang Meixuan and Rodrigo Caporal, who, like Wang, were crowned inaugural RUFF superfight champions in February. Meixuan (5-1) won the flyweight strap and will be returning to action to take on Ya Fei (1-1). Lightweight title winner Rodrigo Caporal (9-4) has won five fights out of five for RUFF and will be looking to continue this winning streak when he goes up against Russian wrestler Rasul Khairulaev (1-0).

Rodrigo Lima is a finisher. But so far, the Brazilian hasn’t been able to prove that at the next level. Lima, in his two fights with Bellator, has dropped a decision and won one. On Wednesday night against Rafael Silva , his plan is to change the course of things – at the most opportune time possible: Bellator’s next bantamweight tournament. But then again, if he has to go 15 minutes, so be it. Lima (11-1 MMA, 1-1 BMMA) and Silva (19-3 MMA, 0-0 BMMA) fight on the preliminary card of Bellator 97, which takes place at Santa Ana Star Center in Rio Rancho, N.M., near Albuquerque. Brazilian fighters have been making a name for themselves competing in Asia since the dawn of modern MMA competition when Rickson Gracie would submit multiple opponents in a single night at Vale Tudo Japan. Today, the sport has evolved almost beyond recognition, but fighters from the same country that gave us the Gracies are still holding their own in Asia. Among them is Rodrigo Caporal, a long-term resident of Hong Kong, who recently became the 155-pound champion of China. Caporal (9-4) has won five fights out of five since signing with RUFF, a Chinese organization that is government sanctioned, giving its fighters the right to call themselves national champions of the most populated country on the planet. The 30-year-old, who holds a black belt in BJJ, won the title at RUFF 8 in February by defeating Haotian Wu in a rematch. In addition to the belt, he received one million RMB (160,000 USD) in prize money. “Winning the belt meant a lot to me, to see all my hard work and dedication pay off made me very happy. My plan is to use the money to help my family and to help build my life together with my girlfriend,” he said. Caporal’s record competing in Brazil was unremarkable, but he has won six fights out of six in Asia and believes that his skillset as a BJJ black belt gives him an edge against the predominantly Chinese opponents he has been facing.

The manager of Carina Damm says the fighter will appeal a six-month suspension and $550 fine from the Ohio State Athletic Commission. Jason Ellis of Relentless Sports Management today told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) that Damm denies submitting a false urine sample to the commission following a fight in Cleveland earlier this month. Ellis added that Damm told him she not take performance-enhancing drugs prior to the competition. “I don’t have all the facts,” Ellis said. “I spoke with Carina and her husband briefly, and my understanding is that she’s not doing anything she’s not supposed to be doing. I was told that she isn’t, so I’m going to support my client and see the facts through.” Damm (18-9), who’s married to Bellator vet Luis Santos and is the sister of UFC featherweight Rodrigo Damm , is suspended for six months retroactive to the date of her fight, which took place June 1 at “NAAFS: Fight Night in the Flats 9.” She lost a decision in a catchweight bout against Bellator vet Jessica Eye (10-1), which at the time was her third consecutive setback. Carina Damm has been suspended for a drug-related allegation for the second time in her career. Damm, the sister of UFC fighter Rodrigo Damm, was suspended for allegedly submitting a fake urine sample for her drug test related to her fight against Jessica Eye . The bout was part of the NAAFS show on June 1 in Cleveland. Ohio Athletic Commission Executive Director Bernie Profato confirmed the news to MMAWeekly.com on Saturday. It was first reported by MMAFighting.com . Damm was suspended for six months and fined $550, but she is still entitled to a hearing, initially set for Aug. 13, if she chooses to appeal, according to Profato. “She was observed by another female, but it is difficult to actually physically watch the person go in the cup,” Profato told MMAWeekly.com .

All 26 competitors who underwent drug testing at UFC on FUEL TV 10 this past weekend successfully passed their tests. The Comissao Atletica Brasileira de MMA (Brazilian Athletic Commission) today confirmed the results with MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com). UFC on FUEL TV 10 took place June 8 at Paulo Sarasate Arena in Fortaleza, Ceara, Brazil. The main card, which saw Fabricio Werdum submit fellow heavyweight Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira , aired on FUEL TV following Facebook prelims. According to the CABMMA, all 26 of the event’s fighters underwent pre-fight urine tests.
