After DQ win, UFC 191′s Joe Riggs discusses his strange series of in-fight mishaps

The 14-year veteran has fought three times in his latest UFC stint and has already had to pull out of a fight because he accidentally shot himself while cleaning a gun and had a fight against Ben Saunders called off when he injured himself during a takedown . So it came as no surprise that Riggs’ (41-16 MMA, 4-7 UFC) bout with Ron Stallings (13-8 MMA, 1-2 UFC) on Saturday at UFC 191 ended on an odd note. The bout streamed on UFC Fight Pass ahead of additional bouts on FOX Sports 1 and pay-per-view.

LAS VEGAS – In a strange ending to what had been an exciting fight, an illegal upkick by Ron Stallings resulted in a disqualification victory for Joe Riggs . Riggs told the cageside doctor he was unable to see after the illegal blow midway through the second round.

Andre Fili The card for UFC 191 is nearing completion with the addition of two new fights. The UFC announced a featherweight bout between Clay Collard (14-6 MMA, 1-2 UFC) and Andre Fili (14-3 MMA, 2-2 UFC) as well as a middleweight fight between Joe Riggs (40-16 MMA, 4-6 UFC) and Ron Stallings (13-7 MMA, 1-1 UFC) for the event. UFC 191 takes place Sept. 5 at Las Vegas’ MGM Grand Garden Arena. The main card airs on pay-per-view following prelims on FOX Sports 1 and UFC Fight Pass

Clay Guida The UFC’s return to Virginia in April has had a pair of new fights added to the lineup. Clay Guida (31-15 MMA, 11-9 UFC) is set to take on Robbie Peralta (18-5 MMA, 4-2 UFC) in a featherweight bout, while Justin Jones (3-1 MMA, 0-1 UFC) takes on Ron Stallings (12-7 MMA, 0-1 UFC) in a middleweight bout. UFC officials announced the two new matchups today. UFC Fight Night 63 takes place April 4 at Patriot Center in Fairfax, Va. The night’s official bout order has yet to be revealed, but the main card airs on FOX Sports 1. It is not known where the two fights will fall in the lineup.

BOSTON – Although short-notice replacement Ron Stallings availed himself well in the early minutes of his fight with Uriah Hall , a cut brought his UFC debut to a halt. Hall (10-4 MMA, 3-2 UFC) landed a short right hand that sent Stallings (12-7 MMA, 0-1 UFC) to the mat and forced the cageside doctor to intervene. The middleweight bout took place at today’s UFC Fight Night 59 event at Boston’s TD Garden. It was the second of four main-card bouts to air on FOX Sports 1. The official end came at the 3:37 mark of the first round after Stallings was ruled unable to continue

Ron Stallings steps in to fight Uriah Hall at Sunday’s UFC Fight Night 59

Ron Stallings Former Strikeforce fighter Ron Stallings has stepped in to fight fellow middleweight Uriah Hall (9-4 MMA, 2-2 UFC) on less than a week’s notice. Stallings (12-6 MMA, 0-0 UFC) replaces Louis Taylor (11-3 MMA, 0-0 UFC), who was a replacement for Costas Philippou (13-4 MMA, 6-3 UFC). Taylor announced his withdrawal over the weekend due to a muscle injury .
