Ning Guangyou PASAY, Philippines – In the waning moments of a lackluster round, Ning Guangyou exploded with a sudden burst of offense to put Royston Wee on his back. As Wee (4-1 MMA, 2-1 UFC) covered up and waited for the round to end, Guangyou (5-2-1 MMA, 2-0 UFC) opened up with elbows from the top, prompting the TKO stoppage at the 4:59 mark Round 2. UFC officials recently announced that bout, as well as a bantamweight matchup between “The Ultimate Fighter: China” winner Ning Guangyou (4-2-1 MMA, 1-0 UFC) and Royston Wee (4-0 MMA, 2-0 UFC). UFC Fight Night 66 takes place May 16 at SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay, Philippines. SINGAPORE – Royston Wee , the UFC’s first fighter from Singapore, notched a win and delighted the local crowd, but in terms of competition, David Galera offered little. The bantamweight bout was part of the preliminary card of today’s UFC Fight Night 34 event at Marina Bay Sands Expo and Convention Centre in Singapore. It streamed on the UFC’s new Fight Pass digital network. The one-sided affair became even more so after a late-fight point deduction, and Wee took the unanimous decision via 30-26 scores across the board. The first round was quickly all Wee, who scored a big slam-takedown in the opening seconds of the fight and then spent the following five minutes in top position.

SINGAPORE – When Royston Wee steps into the octagon on Saturday, he’ll be the first man from Singapore ever to do so. And while he appreciates the opportunity, the 27-year-old doesn’t see the honor as any real accomplishment. “I’m really glad that I can be the first Singaporean to fight in the UFC, but at the end of the day, it doesn’t really matter if I’m the first or the second or whatever,” Wee told MMAjunkie.
