LOS ANGELES – Ruan Potts didn’t have much to offer Derrick Lewis , who was able to take his time in the second round for a convincing TKO. Lewis (12-3 MMA, 3-1 UFC) had to survive a solid submission attempt from Potts (8-4 MMA, 0-3 UFC) in the first round, but tore through him with ease in the second. The heavyweight bout was part of the preliminary card of today’s UFC 184 event at Staples Center in Los Angeles. It aired on FOX Sports 1 following additional prelims on UFC Fight Pass and ahead of a main card on pay-per-view. Potts opened with an outside leg kick, but Lewis calmly stalked from the center and threw a body kick. Both fighters looked for kicks early, but 75 seconds in, Potts worked his way inside and the two clinched up.

Derrick Lewis A second heavyweight bout has been added to the lineup of the UFC’s February return to Los Angeles. Derrick Lewis (11-3 MMA, 2-1 UFC) is set to meet Ruan Potts (8-3 MMA, 0-2 UFC) at UFC 184. UFC officials announced the new contest today. Featuring championship fights in both the middleweight and women’s bantamweight divisions, UFC 184 takes place Feb. 28 at Staples Center in Los Angeles. The main card airs on pay-per-view following prelims on FOX Sports 1 and UFC Fight Pass.

UFC 177 medical suspensions: Headliner Joe Soto could be out six months

Eight fighters received medical suspensions beyond the customary seven-day rest periods following this past weekend’s UFC 177 event. Event headliner Joe Soto , for example, could be sidelined up to six months due to a possible right-hand fracture and a nose laceration. MMAjunkie today obtained the list of medical suspensions from the California State Athletic Commission. UFC 177 took place Aug. 30 at Sleep Train Arena in Sacramento.

SACRAMENTO – After a tentative first round, Anthony Hamilton (13-3 MMA, 1-1 UFC) picked up the pace and his first UFC win after Ruan Potts (8-3 MMA, 0-2 UFC) was out of steam in the second round. Potts was helpless to stop an avalanche of shots to the body and forced referee intervention in the second frame. The heavyweight bout was part of the preliminary card of today’s UFC 177 card at Sleep Train Arena in Sacramento. It aired on FOX Sports 1 ahead of a main card on pay-per-view. After Chris Wade’s exhilarating submission of Cain Carrizosa, Hamilton didn’t exactly wow the crowd with his gameplan, which consisted of catching Potts’ kicks and depositing him to the mat, only to let his fellow heavyweight stand. Boos accompanied his work.

CINCINNATI – Soa Palelei ‘s power continues to fuel him to highlight-reel finishes, and this time Ruan Potts played the role of victim. The heavyweight bout was part of the main card of today’s UFC Fight Night 40 event at U.S. Bank Arena in Cincinnati. It aired on FOX Sports 1 following prelims on FOX Sports 2 and UFC Fight Pass. Palelei took the center of the cage early but kept his distance until he slipped under a Potts punch and scored a well-timed takedown.

The recently announced UFC Fight Night in Cincinnati event has its two first bouts, both of which include an Australian fighter, UFC officials today announced. The pairings include heavyweights Soa Palelei (20-1 MMA, 2-0 UFC) vs. Ruan Potts (8-1 MMA, 0-0 UFC) and lightweights Justin Salas (11-5 MMA, 2-2 UFC) vs. Ben Wall (7-1-1 MMA, 0-1 UFC). As reported earlier today, the event takes place May 10 at Cincinnati’s U.S. Bank Arena .
