Rudy Schaffroth will likely still compete at Bellator 242 – but it won’t be against Steve Mowry. Instead, Schaffroth (6-1 MMA, 2-1 BMMA) is currently being targeted to fight promotional newcomer Ras Hylton on Friday’s card, after Mowry was removed from their preliminary card bout due to a positive COVID-19 test Monday. A Bellator official confirmed the targeted matchup to MMA Junkie on Tuesday, however, contracts have not been signed at this time. Hylton must also pass COVID-19 testing and partake in a mandatory quarantine period

Bellator heavyweight Rudy Schaffroth remembers rolling with the Fortune bothers when they were teammates at Clackamas Community College in Oregon. Schaffroth liked them both. In particular, he thought Tyrell Fortune was a talented athlete and great wrestler. They weren’t close friends, but they shared the bond of wrestling and were also tight with the college’s wrestling coach, Josh Roden. When Schaffroth (6-0 MMA, 2-0 BMMA) transferred to a college in Montana, he expected to see Tyrell Fortune again. Sure enough, they eventually crossed paths, and Fortune beat him by a 7-3 score

A day after an injury forced a lineup change for the main card at Bellator 218, there has been another adjustment. Heavyweight Jeremy Hardy (6-4 MMA, 0-0 BMMA) was involved in a car accident, and his fight with Rudy Schaffroth (6-0 MMA, 2-0 BMMA) now is off the card. A Bellator official today told MMA Junkie the news, which Hardy also posted about on social media. Hardy vs. Schaffroth had been a main-card replacement for a middleweight bout between Mike Shipman and Hracho Darpinyan, which on Monday was scrapped for a Shipman injury

Mike Shipman (13-1 MMA, 4-0 BMMA) is out of his 185-pound bout against Hracho Darpinyan (17-8-2 MMA, 0-0-1 BMMA), a Bellator official today told MMA Junkie. That fight has been scratched from the lineup. Moving up from the prelims to the four-fight main card is a heavyweight bout between Jeremy Hardy (6-4 MMA, 0-0 BMMA) and Rudy Schaffroth (6-0 MMA, 2-0 BMMA). Bellator 218 takes place Friday at WinStar World Casino & Resort in Thackerville, Okla. The main card airs on Paramount and streams on DAZN following prelims on MMA Junkie.
