A pair of former UFC flyweights are set to fight when BKFC makes its debut in New Mexico next month. John Dodson , who twice fought for the UFC’s flyweight title, is set for his bareknuckle debut against Ryan Benoit , who also will be fighting for the first time in the sport. They’ll take the co-main event spot at BKFC 28, which takes place Aug. 27 at Rio Rancho Events Center in Rio Rancho, N.M., outside Albuquerque.

NAC suspends Ryan Benoit for 9 months after testing positive for sleep apnea drug

Former UFC fighter Ryan Benoit was suspended Wednesday for a positive drug test stemming from his last bout under the promotion’s banner. The Nevada Athletic Commission suspended Benoit (10-8) nine months retroactive to a positive urine sample collected in connection to his UFC on ESPN 27 unanimous decision loss to Zarrukh Adashev on July 31. Benoit, 32, was flagged for modafinil, more commonly known as provigil, a commonly prescribed medication for sleep apnea. In addition to his suspension, Benoit faces a total of $3,445.36 in fines and legal fees. He will be eligible to return on April 1, 2022. Following the defeat to Adashev, Benoit was released from the promotion.

Ryan Benoit had to battle through a fractured leg in a hard-fought loss to Zarrukh Adashev at UFC on ESPN 28 on Saturday. Benoit (10-8 MMA, 3-6 UFC) revealed that he broke his fibular head early on in the fight after taking Adashev’s heavy leg kicks, but he never stopped pressing forward. The flyweight was immediately transported to the hospital following his unanimous decision loss to Adashev (4-3 MMA, 1-2 UFC), and his leg was severely swollen. “I’d still chase him around if we had more time to scrap! Broke my fibular head (probably early in the fight if a rocket scientist had to guess). The hospital was very concerned about the swelling and possible compartment syndrome so they kept me overnight and they are still monitoring until tmrw. Ryan Benoit will get another crack at flyweight after his most recent fight was canceled on weigh-in day because of a health concern. Benoit (10-7 MMA, 3-5 UFC) and Zarrukh Adashev (3-3 MMA, 0-2 UFC), who were originally paired up for a May 8 battle, have been rebooked to fight July 31 at UFC on ESPN 27 , which takes place at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. The bout will take place at flyweight. Two people with knowledge of the matchup informed MMA Junkie of the booking Monday but asked to remain anonymous as the promotion has yet to make an official announcement

Luis Pena, Tim Elliott among four UFC fighters suspended for positive drug tests

Four UFC fighters have been given suspensions at the latest Nevada Athletic Commission hearing. On Thursday, the NAC suspended and fined Jamahal Hill , Tim Elliott and Luis Pena for testing positive for cannabis, while Deron Winn was suspended for testing positive for amphetamines. Elliott (16-11-1 MMA, 5-9 UFC) and Pena (8-3 MMA, 4-3 UFC) each were suspended four and a half months and fined 15 percent of the fight purses from their corresponding bouts. They each received reduced suspensions since they had taken their fights on short notice. Elliott lost to Brandon Royval on May 30 at UFC on ESPN 9. Pena lost to Khama Worthy on June 27 at UFC on ESPN 12.
