Bellator Europe 7 card has another notable Irish name on the card. Ex-UFC fighter Paul Redmond (15-8 MMA, 2-0 BMMA) will take on Ryan Scope (11-3 MMA, 0-2 BMMA) on Feb. 22 in Dublin, the promotion announced Monday. Redmond is coming off a unanimous decision win over Charlie Leary at Bellator 217 in February, notching his second promotional victory.

DUBLIN – Ryan Scope may not have walked away from his Bellator debut with a win, but he thinks he probably got a lot of people’s attention. Scope stepped up on short notice to fight Patricky Freire at Bellator’s event in Newcastle, England, this past February. Although he was a significant underdog against “Pitbull,” he gave the longtime Bellator fighter a run for his money and in the end, walked away with a split decision loss . Scope on Wednesday said there was frustration behind the outcome, but still gave him things to build on for the future. If things had panned out just a little different, British lightweight Ryan Scope might have been preparing for a Bellator title fight right now. The Sunderland, England-born fighter took on former Bellator lightweight champion Patricky Freire in the main event of Bellator Europe 1 and pushed “Pitbull” to the limit over three closely contested rounds at the Utilita Arena in Newcastle, England back in February. It was a baptism of fire for the British fighter, and a test that he proved was well within his compass as he battled the Brazilian to a split-decision loss in a bout many observers felt he had won. Scope (10-1 MMA, 0-1 BMMA) believed he’d done enough, and now wants to fight his way back into a position to face “Pitbull” again. “Yeah I was happy to take the test,” said Scope at Bellator’s twin-card press conference in Dublin. “I thought I won the fight, I thought I did enough to win.

Ryan Scope out, Pedro Carvalho meets Derek Campos at Bellator Birmingham

Bellator’s return to England early next month has seen a change on the main card. Ryan Scope (11-2 MMA, 0-1 BMMA) is out of his lightweight fight against Derek Campos (19-8 MMA, 8-6 BMMA) at Bellator Europe 2. Stepping up for him on short notice is Pedro Carvalho (9-3 MMA, 2-0 BMMA). A Bellator official today confirmed the change with MMA Junkie following an initial report from MMAFighting.com Bellator Europe 2 takes place May 4 at Resorts World Arena in Birmingham, England. The card streams on DAZN. Carvalho comes into the fight riding a four-bout winning streak, including back-to-back wins under the Bellator banner

Weigh-ins for Bellator Europe 1 took place Friday, with the headliners and co-headliners hitting their marks. Just one main-card fight had a miss, but that fight will go on. In the main event, former title challenger Patricky Freire meets Ryan Scope in a lightweight bout. Freire came in at 156 pounds; Scope weighed 155. And in the co-headliner, former British reality TV star Aaron Chalmers returns to fight Corey Browning in a lightweight bout. Chalmers tipped the scale at 156, while Browning weighed in at 155.5

Bellator will return to England in February and a former lightweight title challenger will headline the card. Bellator 215 is set for Feb. 9 at Metro Radio Arena in Newcastle, England, the promotion today announced. In the headliner, which is expected to air on Parmaount and stream on DAZN , Patricky Freire (20-8 MMA, 13-7 BMMA) will take on BAMMA champion Ryan Scope (12-1 MMA, 0-0 BMMA). Also on the card, Newcastle native and former reality star Aaron Chalmers (4-0 MMA, 1-0 BMMA) will fight against an opponent still to be determined. The event will be part of Bellator’s recent major expansion in Europe.
